Manic Street Preachers record Euro 2016 theme song for Wales football team

'Together Stronger (C'mon Wales)' will be released ahead of this summer's tournament

Manic Street Preachers have recorded the official anthem for Wales’ Euro 2016 campaign.

The football tournmanent will take place in France this summer. It is the first time Wales have qualified for a tournament of note since the 1958 World Cup – and it will be their first ever appearance at the Euros. They play England in their first match.

To commemorate this achievement, and spur the team on during the tournament, Manic Street Preachers have recorded ‘Together Stronger (C’mon Wales)’. The band broke the news on Twitter today (March 22), though the song has yet to be revealed.

“It’s with great pride we can announce the Manics are providing the official Wales Euro 2016 song – ‘Together Stronger (C’mon Wales)’,” the band tweeted.

All profits from ‘Together Stronger (C’mon Wales)’ will go to the Princes Gate Trust and Tenovus Cancer Care. The track will be available from May 20 and a video featuring the band and the Welsh side has already been filmed.

“It was fantastic to be involved with such an iconic Welsh band,” Wales manager Chris Coleman told the official Football Association of Wales website. “The Manic Street Preachers have been passionate Welsh football supporters and all the lads enjoyed the experience and joined in.”

It hasn’t been announced who will record England’s theme song for the games, with Ant & Dec, The Farm and Fat Les all getting involved in recent years. 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of The Lightning Seeds/Baddiel & Skinner’s ‘Three Lions’

Meanwhile, Manic Street Preachers confirmed earlier this month that a reissue of their 1996 album ‘Everything Must Go’ will accompany the album’s 20th anniversary tour dates later this year.

The band have promised to play the album in full on the tour, including a number of tracks that haven’t been played live since the year of the its release. Editors will join the band as special guests for the tour, excluding Swansea where Super Furry Animals and Public Service Broadcasting will support.

Manic Street Preachers will play the following 20th anniversary shows:

Liverpool, Echo Arena (May 13)
Birmingham, Genting Arena (14)
London, Royal Albert Hall (16-17)
Leeds, First Direct Arena (20)
Glasgow, The SSE Hydro (21)
Swansea, Liberty Stadium (28)
