Founding member calls next year's gigs 'a takeover, rather than a proper reunion'
Wed 10 Dec, 2008
I read Dammers in some DJ/music mag over 15 years ago saying ska was a kind of adolescent music phase for him. 15 years of nothing and he turns up at a Madness gig doing some (what I would call poor) DJing and having no onstage presence whatsoever while the Camden lads took centre stage. If the man is too arrogant to seize his opportunity in the limelight, more fool him. He's not made his name doing anything else since the Specials disbanded. I know that the other Specials aren't always squeaky clean. The use of lawyers in matters of the Specials/Use of the Specials name, is not an entirely new concept for some of the band. They seem to forget that their fans made them what they are and the one member who has remained loyal to the fan base (Neville) has usually had most criticism from rest of the band. Seems like the usual case of "I don't wanna play but I don't want anybody else to play under that name". Cheers boys - not sure if it's gonna be worth getting a ticket. Might be better paying £15 to see Neville play - at least his hearts in it.
