Editors' Tom Smith denies he's 'spearheading campaign against Radiohead'

Frontman tells NME Radio he still thinks they were 'devaluing' music

Tue 06 Oct, 2009

Comments (1)

This completely misses the point. In purely economic terms (because basically this is what it boils down to), how can Radiohead, by offering to give their album away for free, undermine smaller artists? If anything, they are helping the smaller artists by freeing up the buyer's disposable income. Say a music fan wants to buy Radiohead's record AND the CD of 'Band A'. However, in these dark recessionary times they can only afford one and as they pretty much know how great the Radiohead album will be they go for Radiohead, leaving Band A's record sat in HMV. However, Radiohead's offer to give their album away for free enabling the cash-strapped punter to pay out for Band A's record and allowing them to enjoy both! If however, you're uncomfortable with the notion of NOT paying for a record, you can always pay the full-price. Simples.

John Lydon 'saddened by Oasis split'

Although the singer calls Liam Gallagher a 'Second-rate Rotten'

Tue 08 Sep, 2009

Comments (1)

No content or depth? ...the Bollocks is hardly Kid-fuckin-A is it Johnny??? And as for a second-rate Rotten, if you reckon Liam sounds like a mix of Lennon and yourself then that's gonna be greater than the sum of its parts...racist butter fucker...

Leicester band reveal ambition after supporting Gallaghers

Mon 08 Jun, 2009

m0nkeytennis...you're forgetting that it would be impossible for Oasis to consider playing a smaller venue tour - tickets would be snapped up by touts and sold for ridiculously inflated prices (i.e. Noise and Confusion in 2003, the warm-up shows for the Don't Believe the Truth tour in 2005). That said, if you do get the chance to see Oasis in a smaller venue, do it! I saw Noel at Koko in 2006 and that was an incredible gig!

Departed guitarist speaks about band's legacy

Tue 02 Jun, 2009

Comments (1)

Oasis are still a massively important band. For a lot of people (myself included) they're the reason they got into music in the first place. Yeah, there are better albums around than SOTSOG or Heathen Chemistry, but are there any better than Definitely Maybe or What's the Story...? I don't think so...

Something is going horribly wrong here...say what you like about the corporate side of music, but with record shops closing (indies are closing all over the place but obviously without the headlines), recording studios, gig venues as well all closing, makes you wonder what the future is for music. Surely it can't be kids sat in front of their PCs, downloading tracks, creating internet phenomenas, with bands only making live appearances once or twice a year at huge festivals or cavernous, soul-draining arenas?

What the fuck does it matter???? I love Radiohead and Oasis...yeah they're completely different but both of em have produced some great, great music. As for the fans, for every Stella-drinking, Burberry wearing wanker at an Oasis gig there's a Proust-reading faux-intellectual twat at a Radiohead show. End of. The backstage set-up of the current jaunt explained

Fri 23 May, 2008

Comments (1)

Now this is a proper debate...none of this Kooks versus Arctic Monkeys versus the Enemy bobbins...There have been some massively important issues raised (bar iharkis) and I can see both sides of the argument. What Radiohead have done is said, "look, the current situation is simply unsustainable so we're gonna practise what we preach...besides, if we're calling on our fans to think about how they get to gigs, we've got to do the same". Yes, the alternatives are difficult, but not impossible (more biofuels grown in this country for instance). There are no short-term answers but the long-term solutions will be hugely important.
