Emerge NME Radar band accuse Strokes singer of feather plagiarism
Mon 11 Oct, 2010
Calm down Wilder - the band who started the feather craze were the crap Finns The Rasmus, of "In The Shadows" fame. You'd better never have let anyone know you nicked your style from The Rasmus, of all people.

Singer replies to animal rights organisation in open letter
Fri 15 Jan, 2010
Kelis - I know PETA can be a pain the arse and if they devoted that much energy to subjects more important than the wellbeing of fluffy creatures the world might be a better place - but still they are, ultimately, right and there is no more need today for anyone to wear fur. Plus, you will find that minks aren't rodents, but carnivores of the weasel family, which makes you look very dim, and that kinda works against your point. Also, minks were actually very nearly on the brink of extinction due to the fur trade, the European mink still is. Okay, today they are "farming" them, still it makes your point about your not wearing endangered species rather unvalid.

War of words breaks out over use of the Hole name
Wed 15 Jul, 2009
You're totally missing the point here, aren't you, Courtney? Band names may be trademarks in law, but not in the minds of fans and listeners. Only if you treat your art like a business and nothing else but a business can you think like that. Talking of business, your last solo records sank like compressed lead, so to now use the Hole name does very much look like a cynical business-minded decision, not one in the sake of art. If you want to use a band name again, why not find a new one? If it was for art not business you would. I thought Erics comment sounded laid back and fair, while yours is full of bile. No really, you're looking very very bad here.

Iconic writer 'Swells' passes away after suffering from cancer
Thu 25 Jun, 2009
This saddens me. The funny thing about Swells was that i most every time i wouldn't like the band he championed while every band i loved i could be sure he would slag to bits, still i loved to read his pieces. He challenged and annoyed and in between all the CAPITAL LETTERS he made you think and question things. Hats off Sir, shame I never wrote you that in your lifetime.

Pirate Bay fall-out leads to election
Mon 08 Jun, 2009
Swedes have it too good. If the main problem that gets you to the voting booth is "how can I amend one single law according to my liking of breaking it and thereby make sure artists get less reward for my enjoyment" you are f***ing spoilt. Hey, let's start an anti-parking-ticket party while we're at it. Any space should be there for everyone, meaning me, and my selfish twattish needs.

Spat between two singers continues
Thu 04 Jun, 2009
Excuse me, Katy, in case you have forgotten - you are Satan. Or rather, Satan's puke. You have already admitted that you are a lame, dumbed down marketing man's wet dream to recreate a one-dimensional faux-controversial Lily Allen for the US market. A "less fat" Lily Allen, you said. (They even copied the name - hey I can do that: Lucy Danny. Paty Colin. Ruby Terry. Easy!) They then made you sing a pseudo-lesbian wank song for the stupid and you danced along. Beth is a spirited, original, talented artist that stands for something. She has achieved so much despite all odds being against her by being a rebellious, strong, artistic mind. You, though, are the ANTI-Beth. You are worse than Avril Lavigne. Your whole existence is testament to the cynicism that still prevails in some quarters of the music industry. Go talk to another banana please, that is more your level.

Major chains won't display 'Journal For Plague Lovers' cover
Fri 15 May, 2009
As laughable as this is, it does show that the cover is a great piece of art. If a painting - a painting! we're living in the 21st century and are used to advanced 3D headblasts, but here's plain old oil on canvas - can evoke these sort of reactions then the painter really is onto something. I did think the picture was by Lucien Freud, though.

Oh. There's this friend of mine who's a huge prince fan and happily married to his husband. He will be soooo disappointed. Prince, the bible says a lot of things you did not adhere to yourself so don't get all religulous on us now. Like, you would have had sex only with the one person you married and stayed with her all your life. According to the bible you will burn in hell for being the naughty sexdwarf that you are.

German electronic pioneers are dealt a blow
Fri 21 Nov, 2008
Difficult one. The thing is, i am totally pro-sampling. If an artist is making a collage out of paintings he didnt paint that ends up looking nothing like the original paintings, it is a most interesting way to work. But then, what you don't know is that Moses Pelham and Sabrina Setlur have been creating some of the worst crimes against music ever committed. They are the lowest crap even in the horrorfest that is the German music scene and everything that is a stick in their spokes must be cheered.

The Creation Records man won't manage a band again
Thu 30 Oct, 2008
Trams are very much underrated. Running on electricity they are much more environmentally friendly than buses are and they don't nearly cost as much as Undergrounds do. Smart modern cities (Zurich, eg) rely very much on trams as a rediscovered means of public transportation. Trams are the future. Kindof like Oasis they were hip, didn't go away and were merely tolerated and then became pretty smart again. I'm sure theres a lesson in there somewhere, McGee.

Andrew Loog Oldham jokes about the 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' 'steal'
Tue 07 Oct, 2008
The hookline of that song is a sample of an orchestral version that would otherwise have long been forgotten. But the songs lyrics, the chords, the rest of the arrangement, most importantly its message and sentiment is all Verve. This song means so much to so many people but to Oldham, who should be proud and grateful to be connected to it and who we would not have heard of in the last 15 years were it not for "Bittersweet Symphony" - it's just a watch. What a materialistic wanker! If he really believed the Verve were not right to earn the royalties, he should have done the decent thing and given his share to charity. Surely he has no right to lay claim on 100 % of what is possibly the greatest song of the 90s. Pure evil!!!

Wed 01 Oct, 2008
Cmon kids, that band were CRAP. You only got overexited when the first album came out because it was by "CARL CARL CARL oooh i have his sunglasses HES MNNNT" Barat and never listened to it much, it was way too boring. When he came back with more drizzle of the sort we have had too much of since 2004 nobody even bothered to pretend to care. Didz, do the decent thing - the Coopers were futuristic, kickass, snazzy, sassy, bleepoid zongaphooey Primal Scream/ Flaming Lips marshmallows before you spurned them for that bland pretty temptress. Return and soar the night skies like trapezoid chrome fireeater eagles, my friends!

Rob Harvey feels disillusioned by the digital revolution
Fri 05 Sep, 2008
I do agree with Robert here. I may come across like a very old man (and I AM too old to be posting on an NME blog), but there was something magical about stumbling upon a long-sought song in, say, a small shop in Antwerp. It's not the same to go on elbo and find any song weeks before its release with the press of a button. When a song is something you can hold in your hand like a single or a CD and not just abstract data at least I seem to attach more emotions to it. You remember where you got the thing, you connect memories to it. You have in your hand a reflection of the effort that went into making it. Thing is, though, times have changed. Irrevocably. Also i do doubt that a song that mackes your spine tingle does so less when you only have it as an mp3. The Music again have made my spine tingle on numerous occasions and I hope they will get the chance to do so furthermore. It's so frustrating to see great bands who would easily have had a carreer a few years ago struggle to even keep on going. So support your favourite artists. Give something back.

New Yorkers say bands shouldn't get political
Tue 26 Aug, 2008
I do abhor RATMs boring boring boring music, but I totally disagree with WAS here. RATMs "one credential" is NOT "just being able to play the guitar". Check out all their political activities - they are activists who also happen to be in a band. These guys have more than just one feature to them. As do WAS - I mean, you might as well say that bands like WAS shouldn't try to make jokes because you want jokes from comedians only, not from blokes who are playing guitars. No really, as annoyingly over-earnest as RATM may be, WAS are spouting total nonsense here.

But if some loud music from the Pizzorno household had actually triggered the grenade it would have been a VERY Kasabian way to go though, wouldn't it? That would have been the most Rock'n'Roll death EVER. Still, prefer the planet with Serge still walking on it.

What I have heard so far is brilliant. It is a massive step forward from "A Weekend In The City", which in retrospect maybe was a bit safe. But now Bloc Party are really pushing things forward again. They are truly daring when it comes to the sounds they are using, but are still totally accessible and kickass whilst they're at it. Too many pop bands are safe, stale and uninventive, while too many experimental bands forget that someone ELSE is supposed to endure their music, too. Congratulations then, Bloc Party for combining the best of both worlds here.

Band criticise Oxford quintet's pay what you want plan
Sun 17 Aug, 2008
Calm down everyone. Think about how these quotes come about. It's not like Kubler went on a pedestal to shout out his opinions. Somebody asked him about a couple of bands and he chatted about his tastes unaware this was going to be made a news item. Ok, most media-trained bores would have done the usual and have praised everyone even if they hated them. So Hooray to Kubler for not doing that even if I disagree when it comes to Radiohead. "Stay Positive" is one of the albums of the year by the way.

"No royalties from the DVD will come to me" - I believe that seems to be your real problem here, Mr Morrissey? I adore Morrissey but the "Greatest Hits" sold poorly because it was a meagre cash-in compilation of his last two albums . For only two new songs only the saddest of completists buy a whole album of stuff they already own. Of course labels wouldn't spend much money promoting it. Get off your high horse every now and then, Sir.

Not so sure here. Of course i don't think that Josh is a homophobe. But still here we are using homosexuality and homosexual acts as derogatory terms. This "name-calling" may be normal but that doesn't mean it's okay. No we cannot change language. We can only start with ourselves and, well, not use homophobic swearwords. There are much better insults around and it's also brilliant fun inventing your own. This isn't about Josh but about all of us.

Sun 25 May, 2008
Has it occurred to Wogan that the Russian song might actually have been LIKED by an eastern European audience? That winner guy is the 'Russian Justin Timberlake', after all, with many fans all over eastern Europe. Over here in Germany we got the same complaints last year when Serbia won, as this year with Russia. But THESE ARE DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. We must stop being biased western twits. Germanys and Englands entries were bland and pitiful and simply not liked. btw France: Brilliant song! Smart arrangement, fantastic composition (those chord changes), sassy presentation. Shame they didnt run away with the prize.
