Horrors lambast Facebook, MySpace and blog culture

Web 2.0 has destroyed underground music, they argue

Bullsh*t. If you can't find decent music to listen to you aren't looking hard enough. "Underground" or otherwise. I've discovered more great music via the internet (blogs, forums, etc) than I ever did without it (hard to imagine those dark ages now). You'd think The Horrors would be able to find the music that lurks in the dark corners of the internet. Apparently not. Dig deeper, Joshua!

Sad. 60 is pretty young. I met him once at the Royal Festival Hall. He seemed like a nice person. RIP.

Actor Joaquin Phoenix turns rapper

His debut record apparently will be produced by Diddy

His sister Rain Phoenix is also a musician. She toured as a backing vocalist with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the mid-90s, did a song with Michael Stipe for the movie 'Happiness' and is now in a band called Papercranes. His younger sister Summer has also been involved in music. Guess it's in the family.

Iggy Pop and The Stooges pay tribute to Ron Asheton

Iggy Pop calls guitarist 'my best friend'

Tue 06 Jan, 2009

It's especially sad that he should die now when it's only the past few years that he's been really getting all the recognition, opportunities (and money) he missed out on for so many years. (I remember when The Stooges were interviewed on Jonathan Ross last year, Ron mentioned he'd JUST bought his first ever new car.) And it's sad that he and Iggy went so long not talking or being close, only to have Ron pass away when they got to be best friends again, playing great shows together and really getting along. No wonder Iggy's in shock. It's really really sad.

Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton found dead

Guitarist's body undiscovered at home 'for several days' say police

Totally gutted. The Stooges were/are my favourite band. 'Funhouse' my favourite album ever (followed by 'Raw Power'). The Funhouse show at the Hammersmith Apollo in August 2005 was the best gig I've EVER been to. Every time I saw the Stooges play I felt lucky. Ron Asheton was a legend. Irreplaceable. He should've had longer. So sad and so unfair. R.I.P. Ron.

Jane's Addiction to reform for US NME Awards

Original line-up take to the stage in Los Angeles next week (Apr 23)

Thu 17 Apr, 2008

I'm VERY surprised Eric Avery is doing this. He's declined every single invitation to play with Perry again since 1991. I wonder if the fact that his debut solo album has just come out has anything to do with it? Hmm. Well, whatever the reason, it'll be amazing to see the four of them on stage together again playing Janes songs (that is if they can manage not to kill each other between now and then). Somebody better record it!

Jane's Addiction to win NME Godlike Genius award

Band will be honoured at first US NME Awards

Thu 10 Apr, 2008

GOOD CHOICE. Jane's were genius. One of the few bands that were just as good live as on record. Easily the best thing to come out of LA in the Eighties. I hope Eric Avery will join them to pick up the award (though I'm not counting on it. I heard he hasn't spoken to Perry in 15 years.) Still GOOD CHOICE!
