Manic Street Preachers support Doves in London

Bands play in honour of Heavenly record label

Sat 13 Sep, 2008

Dull and average?? Granted, they're not quite The Clash, but they're excellent live and they have 3 good albums under their belt. The Manics on the other hand have been a bit dodgy for a while now (most of their last album aside). Anyway, they only played 6 early songs, it was hardly an oppurtunity to belt out a greatest hits set....

Michael and Emily Eavis: 'Jay-Z will shake up Glastonbury'

Pair say this will be festival's 'flagship' year

Fri 06 Jun, 2008

The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts - it's all in the name really. Last time I checked, Jay-Z was a contemporary artist and Darkside of The Moon came out in 1973! Dave Gilmour is an arrogant prick if he thinks he can ring up Michael Eavis and ask for a top slot after all the acts have been booked! I'd rather be listening to tunes from Reasonable Doubt/The Blueprint/The Black Album than Pink Floyd's out-dated prog noodlings any day! I can't believe people are still bashing Glastonbury and I agree with Michael and Emily: this year's festival is going to be amazing! Kings of Leon will hopefully promote themselves to the big leagues on Friday, Jay-Z is going to blow the doubters away on Saturday, and then The Verve will come back to reclaim their crown as one of the world's best guitar bands on Sunday. Meanwhile, all the nay-sayers will be sat at home crying along to the new Coldplay album and those of us who are actually at Glastonbury (and not just whingeing about it) will be having the time of our lives!

My Chemical Romance fans protest at Daily Mail offices

Fans attack paper for 'scapegoating bands' in emo coverage

Sat 31 May, 2008

Comments (2)

I hate My Chemical Romance possibly more than any other band in the world. But in the same respect I hate The Daily Mail even more. Emo is a load of shite (seriously, grow up guys) but the way the Mail reported this incident was beyond ridiculous, so fair play to those protesting. Still, how about protesting against the Mail next time they publish an article about something that actually matters? Their constant anti-Europe propaganda for instance. Or their archane stance on Islam. Thats just two examples of the daily bile they spew upon the world, but it's not really surprising from a paper still owned by a family that supported Hitler and Tim Mosley. To whoever said this is a paper nobody cares about, I'm sad to say you're wrong - it sells nearly a million copies a day and is the 2nd most read daily publication in Britain. That doesn't make it alright, but it does mean that people listen to what it says. I never thought I'd be sympathetic to the emo community, but for once we have a common enemy. Fuck The Daily Heil!

Paul Weller slams Glastonbury festival

'The fans aren't what they were' reckons ex-Jam man

Tue 22 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

So you're not a music fan if you don't know some of the more obscure Paul Weller songs? I am a music fan and that's WHY I don't know some of his songs. Well, its not even that I don't know them, I just find it hard to get excited by them. I have to endure Weller on a daily basis from my twin brother and his solo stuff is, for the most part, dull shite with the lyrical depth of an empty sink. The Jam were an amazing band, but Weller has long-since disappeared up his own arsehole and it looks like he's staying there. If a musically-greyscale Dad-rock pioneer wants to " slam Glastonbury" then let him. I'm glad the fans gave him a cool reaction, I just hope he doesn't come back!

Oasis' Noel Gallagher: 'Jay-Z wrong for Glasto'

The guitarist says hip-hop is 'wrong' for the British festival

Mon 14 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

There's a lot more to Jay-Z than "guns, bitches and bling". This isn't 50 Cent we're talking about! What next? Chuck D being called a gangster 'cause he told us to Bring The Noise? Noel Gallagher isn't a racist but he isn't exactly in posession of the broadest scope of taste when it comes to music. Who cares what he thinks about Jay-Z? It's like asking Geoff Boycott if he prefers cricket or rugby! Hip-hop does have a place at Glastonbury, just like everything else. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Just stop moaning and let those of us who do enjoy it have our fun!

Glastonbury tickets still on sale

Limited number of tickets up for grabs

Mon 07 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

Why all the Jay-Z hate? He wouldn't be the first rapper to play there, just the first to be so prominent in doing so. If people are basing their opinion of the man on stuff like "Hard Knock Life" then I strongly adivse you check out 2001's The Blueprint; one of the finest albums of this or any other decade. I just don't buy it that the headliners are to blame for slow ticket sales. The Verve are still a massive band (tickets for their brief tour sold out in a flash last year), even 10 years after they fell apart; Kings Of Leon have had 3 amazing albums and were awesome as second-top of the bill in 2004; Jay-Z is arguably the greatest rapper alive and I know people who are going purely for his appearance (no, they're not 15 years old). The real reason ticket sales are slow? Simple: it costs a £160 and you can go to many a festival for roughly half of that. Add that to the plethora of negative press the festival recieved last year (too middle aged and middle class etc.) and 3 years of sludge (which is actually quite good fun btw) then its safe to assume the casual festival goer would think twice about it all. Especially as the ticket-buying process has been like an endurance test for the last 4 years! Glastonbury will still always be the best festival, whether it sells out in an instant or not, and I for one am chuffed to buggery that I've got a ticket! See you at the stone circle :-D
