Fri 25 Sep, 2009

OK this is getting annoying now. All these poor musicians getting angry that the outrageously excessive income stream they receive for not doing very much is slowing down. God forbid they might have to actually start doing more "work" like playing shows. Or they could try persuading the industry to charge reasonable prices, but of course they wouldn't get as big a cut then would they. It makes me sick. And all this rubbish about it damaging up and coming bands, preventing them from breaking through? Ask the Arctic Monkeys if they wish no-one had ever file-shared "I bet you look good on the dancefloor"

"I would never recommend any artist go live, because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance" Possibly the most ridiculous quote ever. That's what a musician does, it's kind of their job to sing live. By this guy's logic talent has no bearing on being an 'artist' anymore. Anyone can use studio equipment to sound good then lipsync to it. This is what's wrong with music these days.

I think jamesthemod you are missing the point. Kids only listen to all that because it's perpetually thrust at them from every direction. If there was more exposure given to actual bands, in a fair ratio with the money fuelled pop bollocks, kids would be more inclined to change their mind without having to wait until they can make their own decisions. We accept it because it's become the norm.If Germany had won the war, and we were all German, we'd be used to it by now and no-one would mind, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing.

Music industry claim 95 per cent of all downloads are illegal

New report calls for ISP's to be stricter on culprits

Fri 16 Jan, 2009

Comments (1)

When is the music industry gonna get off it's high horse and accept that they're the criminals for the prices they charge? They can keep harping on about how wrong it is to share files, and how it damages musicians etc, but they're patronising people. Call me old-fashioned, but maybe bands would have to go back to earning their wages from doing what it is that bands are actually supposed to do, play live. Instead of only touring to advertise their over produced over-priced albums.

He said them IN his book, it's the papers and this website that made a point of it. He's mostly right anyway, but I don't expect people who are fans of the likes of Oasis to accept it.. It's not so much the "mindless" slagging off that needs to stop, it's the "mindless" defence of unoriginal formulaic bands that needs to stop. Whoever called Travis talentless is wrong, he's an amazing drummer, just ask any of the drummers that you do actually respect and they'll tell you so. As for the lawsuit, it's shocking that he even thought about money after the whole thing. Seems to be the case with everybody these days. I'd surely have more important things on which to focus my thoughts if that were me in his position

lol TOMQ84 If my favourite bands were as successful as Oasis there's a 99% chance I wouldn't like them anymore. Most actual bands enjoy making lots of money (Just not astronomical amounts like the knobs above) by playing to medium sized crowds in the knowledge that every one of them understands and cares about the music, instead of only being there to fuel their ego, It's not something an Oasis fan would understand though...

Oasis' Noel Gallagher slams Mick Hucknall after Manchester comment

Noel says Mick’s comments are 'irrelevant'

Sat 22 Nov, 2008

Comments (1)

By Jove I think he's got it! "So nothing that's popular is good then?" That's generally how it works. It doesn't mean the band were never good, but when it becomes more popular, it's nearly always because it's been diluted and crafted to sell more. The rule that almost always works is that the album before a band's breakthrough album is nearly always their best by far. Go on, think of some bands and try it. I wonder when the last time was that someone bacame a fan of Oasis because they heard them and thought "that's awesome"? Instead of being told they're good by someone they judge to be "cooler" than them and jumping on the bandwagon?

The "News" stories posted everyday are so frequent and boring they must just stem from idle chatter. He should spend less time expressing opinions on everything to people that don't care what he thinks, and more time working out how he can write some original music.

the right to free speech is a joke. It only applies if you want to say something that won't offend anyone, which doesn't make it free speech at all. I apply the same logic to this as racism. It's not ok to be racist just because you have freedom of speech, so in the same way it isn't ok to disrespect our monarchy.
