Plus guitarist praises Mercury Prize winners Elbow

Well.....I've heard Beautiful Day, along with the entirety of the U2 discography. I consider myself a U2 fan, but I must admit that their last couple of albums have been disappointing. They're getting away with murder, as far as all the hype is concerned. I'd give All That You Can't....a C+ and the last one a C-. I expected a lot more from such a talented band. I feel the same way about R.E.M.'s last several albums. Accelerate is only slightly better. Who else agrees that if a band's creative well has dried up, they should stop?

He says they have 'reinvented' rock n roll again

It's nice to see that Lanois is back behind the board...does this include Eno as well? If so, I'm definitely intrigued to hear what they've accomplished together. The last several U2 records have been extremely uninteresting, in my most humble opinion. Does Lanois really think that Bono's lyrics get better? I would say he peaked with Joshua Tree or Achtung. Since Lanois certainly knows what the band is capable of, I guess he would be one of the best gauges of how Bono and co. are going to "reinvent" the genre of rock & roll. Pardon me if I choose to remain a skeptic.

Well, I think U2 sucks NOW, but didn't at one time (1980-1993). I can't believe Lanois thinks this new album will change rock. Who does he think he's kidding? Their last several albums have definitely been WAY overrated.
