Drummer Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan passes away at home
Tue 29 Dec, 2009
Very sad news. My musical tastes may have veered away from hard rock and metal but always enjoyed A7X for the imagination and excitement they put into their brand of rock music. However The Rev was always the most impressive element for me. There have been few drummers as technically good as him or as musical and imaginative. He never sounded OTT like a lot of metal drummers and was always bringing something to the sound. R.I.P.

This is absolutely shattering news...this is the venue where my band Our Feathered Embers played our first gig, on Redver' unplugged night. Talking of plugs, we are playing again on Jan 11th...check out the myspace...myspace/ourfeatheredembers. Ok, sorry shameless that was, but on a serious note, this venue is amazing and must be kept. Heartbreaking news.

monotonous drivel. Josh Homme is so overrated...virtually everything he has written has been totally tuneless. This is no different.

Musicians sign motion to push for restricted bandwidth for downloaders
Fri 25 Sep, 2009
At risk of upsetting an army of morons, I am going to agree with this ruling. This is not going to affect people who just download an album here and there. It will target the serial downloaders who frankly deserve it. It boils down to theft whichever way you look at it. Sure bands should earn for touring, but when you put you heart and soul and a considerable amount of time into recording an album it is nice to be rewarded for it. I think a lot of you would be whistling a different tune if you were trying to make it. Ok, these artists may be wealthy but to be so cynical as to scorn them for standing up for artists less well of than themselves i pathetic. Ignore the fact that you benefit from file sharing for a moment and take a neutral view. If you dont have a moral issue with it then you are a pathetic person. Basically. Most commenters here just resort to personal, and lame insults rather than any measured view as well. Grow up.

Nathan Followill calls fans 'frozen'
Sat 29 Aug, 2009
Ah that is a shame, the last member of the band whom I thought had some common sense has spoken. It was not the fans fault, the band looked disinterested and bored.

Guitarist walks after gig cancellation
Fri 28 Aug, 2009
Perhaps there is a God after all. At last we may finally see the end of the most overrated band of all time! NME, does this mean, surely not, that your stalker led obsession with the band may end!?Please confirm this. The prospect of no more articles with Liam telling some random person with a brain they are a 'fucking student' as though that was insulting and of Noel claiming Oasis to be as important 'as the Rolling Stones' is something to be savoured.

The Followills top the bill on the Main Stage
Fri 28 Aug, 2009
that was absolutely pathetic (reading) - I watched until the set was pulled from air because Caleb is a total fucking prima donna these days. The entire set was marred by a total lack of enthusiam. Caleb is looking fucked and being immensly arrogant. Matt was leaning on the drum riser during slow night, bored. They desperately need to take time out and find an interest in there music, or move on. Only By The Night was frankly awful, just a huge, cheesy half finished cash in on their Glasto success, and now the effects of that success are all to evident. Given that they are a band that produced one of the best albums I have ever heard (Y&YM) followed by two more good albums, it pains me to say this, but maybe it is time to take an extended holiday, and come back when Caleb has got over himself (and probably been to rehab) and they feel revitalised to write good music again and start, dare i say it, enjoying being in a great band and playing for adoring fans. Gutted to say the least.

Pioneer passes away after pneumonia complications
Thu 13 Aug, 2009
How very sad. The Les Paul was the first guitar I really fantasised about owning when I was a 10 year old, as I am sure it was for so many other budding musicians. His named will be etched forever in musical history. May he rest in peace, contented that he achieved so much in a long and prosperous life.

Singer says she's clean of illegal substances
Sun 11 Jan, 2009
There seems to be an overriding feel of immaturity and basic idiocy on this site. Whether you like or dislike her music (I happen to think she is an excellent singer and enjoy both her albums immensly), to suggest that her death would be met with indifference by people such as yourselves is pathetic. What would life be without difference. If everyone was left to die who didnt conform to your taste the world would be a dull and lonely place. Grow the fuck up. And lets hope Amy is being honest. It is so sad to watch someone spiral out of control and know that you cannot do anything to help her.

'It's hardly offensive' says guitarist about radio debacle
Thu 30 Oct, 2008
Noel is a wanker, but I totally agree...It is a great shame to lose Russell's show, and though it may have been offensive they apologised. This is an example the mob rule, and a totally ridiculous one at that. 27,000 of those complaints are by people who dont listen to the show and would probably complain about every one of his shows. it is pathetic. the best thing about this story is the grand-daughter though. She claims she was very upset but was all to happy to make a hell of a lot by selling her story to that rag called The Sun. She was happy to have her face on every paper. attention seeking whore.

Band confirm they are after a new singer
Tue 28 Oct, 2008
I wish they wouldnt tour. This is ridiculous, do they have no integrity? They have the greatest legacy of any rock band and they seem, with the exception of Robert, all to happy to take a shit on it. Led Zep simply isnt Led Zep without Plant. Page is not the guitarist he used to be, JPJ wrote amazing basslines but anyone can play them live, and Bonzo is dead. As they have neither their energy or their look anymore this tour will essentially seem like a very highly budgeted covers band. Whomever they get to sing, be it Myles or anyone else will be on better form than the band, yet that just serves to make the whole thing more of a joke. Ultimately I have no doubt that anyone that watches this gigs with an unbiased eye will leave feeling that they have just seen a covers band. AND PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT RELEASE AN ALBUM. It will sound dated and cheesy, just as all albums by old rock bands do. I mean just listen to the new Queen record. What a pile of cheesy crap. Willy Plonka, oh dear.

New singer replaces late Layne Staley
Tue 09 Sep, 2008
oh please dont trash your wonderful legacy with Layne by making an average record with a new singer. no disrespect to DuVall but AiC without Layne is like The Libertines without Pete or Queen without Freddie. A bit crap.

Rob Harvey feels disillusioned by the digital revolution
Fri 05 Sep, 2008
i agree with his anti-download stance. I love buying cds as you have a product that you can touch and feel. you get the artwork and the booklet and it just looks like a quality product. now people just download music, legally or illegally, and it is just a matter of course. you cannot treasure an album that is just a bunch of files on a computer. just as i would buy a book and not just read the text off a computer. obviously people disagree but i think music is worth so much more when there is a tangible element to the product.

Who do you think will be among the 12 nominees tomorrow (July 22)?
Mon 21 Jul, 2008
c'mon Johnny Flynn! Amazing album, amazing live band. Rather him that some melody-less generic crap like The Ting Tings, or some other overrated jizz like The Wombats or Foals. Lets give it to a genuine artist with enduring songs and fantastic all round musicianship, not a band who just jump on the bandwagon and have there astonishingly pedestrian music lauded by the shallow and pretentious critics of such websites such as Pitchfork and Drowned In Sound, and even this very site. The Flynn album is a fantastic folk album that has something for everyone whilst maintaining a strong identity of its own. plus, the bloke plays 6 bloody instruments on this album. let the angry responses begin! xxx

Mon 28 Apr, 2008
I like NME's idea of 'full line up" - quite a few, unamed TBC's...plus the line up is balls. Band Of Horses, The Raconteurs, Kings Of Leon, The National, Biffy Clyro, Black Keys and Seasick Steve are the only ones really worth it. If Reading had Band Of Horses it would be almost perfect. That is where I am heading.

Genesis man will longer tour or record
Fri 25 Apr, 2008
yes his solo stuff sucks, yes his stuff when he fronted Genesis sucks...but dreville...are you mad?! do you have ANY idea how brilliant a drummer this man is?! Whether you like it or not, listen to an early Genesis album with Peter Gabriel on vocals such as 'Foxtrot' and tell me he has no talent. You are, what they call, a fucking idiot. tho, this news does please me massively at the same time.

Country and jazz legends to release first album together
Thu 17 Apr, 2008
Love a bit of willie nelson...real music...no pretensions, no gimmicks...just a soul, a guitar, and some fantastic songs. There will always be a place in music for someone who just plays the guitar and writes brilliant songs with no attempt to be 'unique', that just comes from just being yourself.

Thu 10 Apr, 2008
I am a huge GnR fan...people who call them just another 'stadium rock band' clearly know very little about the band...however, Axl Rose is a cock, and without Izzy Stradlin and Slash this band are crap. The songs suck, Axl's voice has, understandably, got shit and the band are a bunch of fucking weirdos.
