Good week for singles; 'Red Sox Pugie' by Foals is awesome, as is the rest of their album, PATD's new track is also good, but Chick Lit is song of the week, We Are Scientists are absolute legends and looking forward to seeing them in Sheffield in July

Fri 09 May, 2008

Comments (1)

Oh look he's at it again...its_rudimentary it's clear you don't like Coldplay so, like i said before, why bother commenting on articles? Comment on someone who you like rather than ones you don't, so you don't waste your time. A for the gigs, i wish i could go, but living in the North of England means London is a bit of a trek for me. It's nice bands are offering their fans free gigs, as those who can't usually afford gigs on tour dates get the oppertunity to see their favourite artists. Free downloads, free gigs? Violet Hill is an awesome comeback from an awesome band. I haven't got a vinyl player though so i can't comment on A Spell A Rebel Yell, but i'm sure it's just as good. Chris Martin and co. know how to put a mysterious and guitar laden songs together, and Violet Hill is no different. I like the new direction. Maybe they haven't gone exactly into the Radiohead style they were aiming for, but they've interpreted a similar sound...a copy would just be boring. I'm sure Viva La Vida and Death and All His Friends will be a perfect follow up to X and Y, Violet Hill demonstrates this. Let's just hope they tour...soon.

Amy Winehouse arrested for suspected drug possession

The singer's in custody due to controversial video

Wed 07 May, 2008

Comments (1)

Amy Amy Amy...I hate the tabloids, as i'm sure she do does. They reveal stuff just to earn a living, without understanding how hard it is being into drugs, and getting clean. They should show some respect to talented people like Winehouse, and let them get clean. if tabloids are gonna comment on musicians, it should be about their music, not their lifestyle. The Sun are so shallow, by selling the video, they make more money. It's a viscious cycle. I hope she ends all this on a good note, she has some wicked tracks. She's certainly one of the better female singers of this decade.

Coldplay to play free gig in Barcelona

Band set to announce details of the show soon

Tue 29 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

I agree ava86. I had a rant on the 600,000 downloads article where the idiot its_rudimentary, also commented. One thing, if you hate Coldplay so much, why have you commented on just about every article about Coldplay on NME.com since they've returned. Some people do like Coldplay and you are entitled to an opinion, but you also called people 'bland and souless'. Slating a band is one thing, but slating music fans tastes is wrong. Everyone is different, and i'm glad we aren't all the same as you, otherwise we would all be bland.

Coldplay single downloaded by 600,000 people

'Violet Hill' is a huge success digitally - now get it physically

Wed 30 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

I'm not being funny or anything, but all the people who've commented on this article...and slated it, one question. WHY HAVE YOU EVEN BOTHERED TO COMMENT IF YOU HATE COLDPLAY OR THE NEW SONG? I'm not saying you can't slate it, but its_rudimentary, why go around saying "bland, souless people"? There are clearly Coldplay fans who like the band and want to make a fair comment. Stop discriminating against other music fans just because their tastes aren't the same as yours, we're all different. You people who have backed its_rudimentary, can't hate Coldplay that much if you can be bothered to click the link bringing you to articles such as this. Why take the time out to do so, when you could comment on bands you do like..End of rant, just wanted to get that across. As for the actual download, i didn't have a problem with downloading it, and i think 'Violet Hill' shows a new direction for Coldplay. Fans shouldn't start saying i don't like Coldplay now, or Chris Martin has gone mad, because 2008 seems to be the year for change. I mean, we've got hip hop at Glastonbury, and PATD have gone folk, why shouldn't Coldplay change too? Let's give 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends' a chance, it could be the record of the year.

The Hives 'rob fans of dignity' at Nottingham show

Pelle Almqvist blames energetic gig on 'my rampant sexuality'

Thu 17 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

T.H.E H.I.V.E.S ...What an amazing show. 100 % better than i predicted it would be. I went to see The Fratellis on Sunday, which was good but i'm afraid i have to say The Hives officially topped it! I'm still trying to figure out where they get all the energy from. It's amazing. The atmosphere at Rock City last night was electric, and that begun when they walked on stage...Howlin' Pelle Almqvist is such an amazing, charismatic frontman. Nicholaus Arson plays guitar like a madman. Every gap between songs there was banter, nobody could understand them, but everyone made some noise. Best song?? It's gotta be Hate To Say I Told You So. I could see these guys headlining Glastonbury. I don't think anyone will agree, but anyone there last night will agree. I think they perform better in intimate venues but they's be amazing at Glasto.I would recommend The Hives live. Anyone who was unsure about getting tickets, you missed out. I'll be going to see them again, whether i have to go to London, or even further afar. Wasn't sure about the support though (Check ot Henry Fiat's Open Sore on myspace. If looks could kill, their frontman could've taken the whole crowd out)We Rule the World (T.H.E H.I.V.E.S)? They most certainly do.

Yes Jay-Z is a big star, and if he does still choose to play, at least put him on on the sunday, when everyone goes home. My ideal lineup- Friday: The Verve, Saturday: Kings Of Leon, Sunday: Jay-Z. If he does pull out, The Hives would be amazing headliners. Yeah they aren't a large act but they know how to play a show. Just a suggestion. At least get someone better than the newlywed.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?'s track is the best track this week and should chart highly this week. It's electro beats and combination of sound effects make it a unique track. The only things standing in their way of a high chart position is all the commercial, manufactured pop like Girls Aloud, that annoying Nickelback song (Rockstar) and Welsh Amy Winehouse rip-off Duffy. Get lost and let decent music, like Does It Offend You, Yeah? show the world what music should be.

Kings Of Leon will be awesome and i think everyone should've known that The Verve would headline from the moment of the reunion last year. Great choice for two of headliners....Jay-Z though??? He'll be having his wellie boots diamond encrusted like Dame Shirley Bassey...

Seems like a good week for singles. Blood Red Shoes make such a noise (a great noise) for two people, hope they do well. Hot Chip's new anthem is gonna be a hit at the festival, i'm ready for the floor on which to dance (pun intended). Misery Business is also great, Hayley is such a great singer. Not heard Morrisey's track but i'm sure it will be great as ever. Elliot Minor's song is okay...but not as good as the other releases.

One Night Only's 'Just For Tonight' or Adele's 'Chasing Pavements' should be number one. O.N.O are an amazing young band tipped for big things in '08 and Adele is a fantastic singer-songwriter, and again should be huge in '08. I reckon Adele will get the top slot as she's number two on downloads alone. Good Luck to both.

Nice to see the winehouse getting her feet back on the ground. She's finally got the idea that health makes for better performances and i hope she does well on her Grammy performance and receives all the awards she's nominated for....

The Verve to headline this year's Coachella Festival

Raconteurs, Rilo Kiley will also play the California event

Well done for getting the headline slot. The Verve should headline Glastonbury too, not Jay-Z or Kanye West(WHY??). A legendary band should headline Britain's most legendary festival.

AMY what are you doing?! So much for new hair, new start. Yeah you're husband's in jail but that's his fault, drugs isn't going to help you get through it, apart from mess up you're brain. You can sing, so don't mess up your career and repeat 2007's antics. Don't let your fans down, because of a distgusting , useless habit.

The Wombats Moving To New York is an absolute anthem and a stunner live. Saw them in December and will be seeing them in May aswell, I WILL GET A TICKET! Defo the best song released this week of the above. Heard Supergrass's Diamond Hoo Ha Man the other day and i think it's a grower. They were great supporting the Arctic Monkey's last year. Good Luck to both bands. Hope they get a high position in the charts.. :)

Wombats force riot change

They're out of tonight's NME show

It's as if Murph is against performing at the moment. I went to see The Holloways a few weeks back at the Leadmill, where The Wombats should've supported. I was disappointed to discover the rumour that they weren't playing which was echoing down the queue to the venue was true. Halfway through The Holloway's (who were amazing) set, a security bloke came on stage with a letter from Wombats from the tourbus outside saying Murph's vocal chords had 'gone walkabouts'. THEN Dan and Tord from the band appeared on stage with Alfie and Co, launching themselves into the audience. My Dad who i went with said a guy at the bar had been complaining because the last 2 times the Wombats were scheduled to play the Leadmill they'd pulled out of it. I thought they just didn't like Sheffield. I'm going to see The Wombats in December at the Leadmill, but the question is, will they do a Winehouse? I truly hope not. I feel sorry for the guys at Cardiff who have to go through what i did. Wombats GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER! If he genuinely is ill, get well soon mate, preferably before you play supposedly play Sheffield again.
