Coldplay's Chris Martin: 'I ripped off Jeff Buckley'

Martin also thinks the band's recent London gigs could have been better

have you listened to Shivers once more ? nothing like buckley to me. Sparks (parachutes), on the contrary is exactly the same ryhtmic & mood as Buckley's Lover. Still, when you have a high voice and you play romantic-E-minor-guitar-pop, can you completely avoid the comparison ? the fact is that Buckley's Grace did influence a whole generation. the fact is too that Martin's melodies are absolutely brilliant aren't they ? If we base ourselves on chords, everybody is ripping off everybody. if we get to melodies, U2, radiohead (ok computer), or Coldplay are just amazing melodists. When it comes to la vida and satriani, the chords are exactly the same on verses and the melody too. but would one of the biggest band in the world release a single ripping off the biggest guitar hero ? Either i'm totally wrong and someone in the production office of Coldplay is a nuts or this is just a case of unconscious influence. or i'm so naive i didn't spot Martin was the biggest thief in the rockn'roll history.
