Aerosmith's Joe Perry: 'Steven Tyler has quit'

Guitarist says band 'will probably find somebody else to sing'

Mon 09 Nov, 2009

Comments (1)

If there was ever a sign that a band should stop, this is it. They can't carry on without their singer, who's voice is instrumental to the band's established sound. Maybe if it was the 80's still, they could get away with it. But they haven't made a great album since the early 90s, and it would spare us all the wanky ballads they've been inflicting on the world lately.

Mon 25 May, 2009

It's sad because he was a major contributor to Wilco's best album, 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot'. Even though he didn't see eye to eye with Jeff Tweedy, they still made fucking amazing music together. You get people dying all the time who were arseholes and made no valid contribution to society or the arts, so when someone goes who actually used his talents to enrich people's lives then it's pretty tragic.

grahamajoyce, don't exaggerate too much. It pisses me off when people complain about Glastonbury based on the massive artists alone. I hope they resist the temptation to record any new material though, that would be disastrous.

It's been a long time since a band's first 3 albums were as good as theirs, but the quality has really dipped on Only By The Night. X Factor shouldn't be allowed to use this or any credible song. They'll just wank it up like they normally do anyway. They should just stick to the shitty pop that they're famous for and leave the serious music to those who know what they're doing. If anyone actually thinks that the X Factor version could be anywhere near as good as Buckley's sublime rendition, then you are clearly a twat, and all you are doing is taking up space on this planet.

Cream's Jack Bruce: 'Fuck off, Led Zeppelin, you're crap'

Jack Bruce isn't impressed with Jimmy Page's guitar playing

Wed 05 Nov, 2008

Comments (1)

I don't think you can compare Clapton and Page as guitarists. Clapton is almost exclusively a blues/r&b player, whereas Page turned his hand to many different styles with Led Zeppelin. In terms of playing live, Clapton was more about feeling than speed, and in my opinion he seemed to able to always play the right note at the right time. Page was a better out-and-out rock guitarist and riffmaker, and his sloppyish playing seemed to suit Zeppelin's live playing. I love Cream and Led Zeppelin, but my preference is for Page. It just seems a shame that Jack Bruce had to stick his oar in like that. Fuck knows what his problem is. They're both among the greatest rock & roll bands of all time, just leave it at that.

Manic Street Preachers to release Richey Edwards-written album

The new album is set to be released next Spring

Tue 04 Nov, 2008

Comments (2)

I loved their first four albums and I hope this will be a return to form, but I fear it's just going to be yet another case of good lyrics and shit music. It's about time the Manics pulled their fingers out and started rocking out a bit more. I wouldn't really care if the lyrics were lifted from Thomas The Tank Engine books, as long as the quality of the tunes improved.

Fans slam Led Zeppelin plans to reunite without Plant

Plans to replace the singer have met with a hostile reception

Wed 29 Oct, 2008

Comments (1)

Page and Plant may have toured without Jones, but they never did it under the Led Zeppelin name because it just wasn't Led Zeppelin. Plant shouldn't be criticized for not wanting to/not being able to do it, he should be respected. The band was as good as it was because they were a sum of their collective parts. The more parts you take away, the worse it'll perform.

Led Zeppelin to tour with Robert Plant replacement

Band confirm they are after a new singer

Tue 28 Oct, 2008

Comments (2)

No no no!!! For god's sake, don't be so fucking foolish! For years, Led Zeppelin retained their dignity by refusing to compromise the great legacy that they had, while other rock dinosaurs have disgraced themselves by touring with replacement singers (Queen, INXS, The Doors). Going on tour without Robert Plant would be a real insult, and it will be utterly disastrous. A lot of people thought that even playing the o2 show without Bonham was bad enough, but this really is a step too far. No one else can sing those songs, and shame on them for even suggesting it. Jimmy Page is my musical hero, but he's gone down in my estimation for this.

Led Zeppelin reunion: band working on new material

A new album could be on the way

Tue 26 Aug, 2008

Comments (1)

I'd like to see them do a tour, if they think it feels right. But there is no way they should even consider recording new material, at least not under the Led Zeppelin name. For one thing, they'd just ruin that amazing recording legacy they have from 1969-1980. And also, it isn't really Led Zeppelin without John Bonham. In fact, when Bonzo died in 1980, they said their was no way they could continue as a band without him. They have shown that they can still carry off a live show, but I think they've become a little bit caught up in the excitement of it all, and the suggestion of new material is very reactionary.

'Ian Brown is stopping Stone Roses reunion'

Mani says the rest of the band members are up for it

Tue 15 Jul, 2008

Comments (1)

I'm not sure they should drag it all back up again, but as with Led Zeppelin, I would still try and get tickets. I think that Mani, Reni and John Squire might think that the Roses need an appropriate send-off, as the band's demise was so protracted and messy. 1995 was an awful year for them, and it was a great shame they didn't manage to play their Glastonbury set. It's genuinely horrific to think that the last event in the life of The Stone Roses was that disastrous performance at Reading in 1996, so maybe they feel the need to play one last great gig to get some closure.

Emily Eavis: 'Jay-Z not to blame for Glastonbury registrant numbers'

Glastonbury organiser claims recent bad weather is to blame

Wed 26 Mar, 2008

Comments (1)

"I'm sure it's because of the weather," she told NME.COM. "People only remember the last festival, so if it was really muddy… I don't blame them, to be honest." So why were there so many registrations in 2007 after 2005 was really muddy? Kings Of Leon are a great band, and worthy headliners, but Jay Z is really not appropriate for Glastonbury.
