The Strokes recording new album without Julian Casablancas

Singer says band are making a 'funky 'First Impressions Of Earth''

Jules sounds more excited by money than I ever thought possible. And as for the singer-less sessions.... does this mean he'll be literally "phoning in" his vocal parts? For heaven's sake guys..... just put a bullet in the head of this sad, croaking, diseased, barely twitching dog carcass of a band.

John Mayer 'sorry' for using racially offensive language in interview

Singer 'should have never said the 'N word' and will never say it again'

Thu 11 Feb, 2010

Comments (1)

Obviously Mayer is a colossal bellend, but it's troubling to think that a person - regardless of their colour - cannot merely quote a word without fearing accusations of actively employing its negative context. Presumably Patti Smith, Tarantino and Chris Morris are still off the hook....

Alan McGee: 'They should get rid of the BRITs'

Scottish music mogul also slams nominees Coldplay and Paul McCartney

Wed 27 Jan, 2010

Comments (1)

Despite being a prize dingbat, McGee is absoutely right to lambast the risibly backward-facing Brits. It's pretty obvious that the savvy, broadband connection-owning music fans of today have had enough of being told what to like by the men in red braces. The 'industry' as we know it is crumbling to bits and The Brit Awards reflect absolutely *nothing* about what's really going on with music in the 2010s.

The Verve's Richard Ashcroft: 'I'm going solo again'

Singer says he will return to his own work before too long

Wed 06 Aug, 2008

Comments (1)

I don't see the big fuss - the sound of The Verve is pretty much contained within Ashcroft's distinctive vocals. It's about as devastating as Mark E Smith saying he's going solo.By that token, if 'Love Is Noise' wasn't attributed to his Stadium-filling cash cow, it would be regarded as just another ok Ashcroft single.

Jay-Z hits back at Noel Gallagher in Glasto row

'We have to respect each other' says the Glastonbury headliner

Tue 13 May, 2008

Comments (1)

Jay-Z's articulate diplomacy in this retort serves even more to expose Noel Gallagher as the blinkered and irrelevant old fart he really is.

Radiohead speak out against 'Greatest Hits' album

Thom Yorke asks: 'What's the purpose?'

Fri 09 May, 2008

Comments (1)

It's a mystery to me why record companies bother releasing Greatest Hits packages by indie bands - the vast majority of their fanbase will already own much of said band's back catalogue as old cds or downloads. Coupling this with Thom's comments, I'm almost certain that very few Radiohead fans will be buying this album. Teens too young to remember 90s Radiohead also don't buy cds, so if they were to discover the band it would be via other, more modern forms of media. Here's to the Radiohead Greatest Hits selling 47 copies.
