Glastonbury festival 2009: full line-up announced

Find out who will be heading to Worthy Farm next month

Mon 25 May, 2009

Lady Gaga is a joke and I don't know how the hell Bloc Party keep getting these big slots.....still, it's a good mix this year - not full to the brim of top names but thhat's what Glasto is about - a whole bunch of new bands to go and check out - Glasto's not about having killer line ups on the main stages - if they did that people wouldn't stretch their legs and check out The Park, Queen's Head, Acoustic etc....kudos to Eavis for putting EODM on main stage though - the Pyramid has been missing some proper hard rock for a few years - still think Friday and Sunday's line ups would be better swapped around though - that Friday headline slot is the best one to have....

Oasis and Killers to headline V Festival

Plus Razorlight, Lily Allen, Pete Doherty, Elbow to play

Mon 02 Mar, 2009

Comments (1)

I see the organisers have claimed this is 'eclectic' - just sounds liek a bunch of largely uninspiring, popular bands, with a couple of token pop acts like Alesha Dixon and The Saturdays, quite possibly the thickest girl group from the past 15 years...

Coldplay's 'shit day' after BRITs snub

Band upset after no win despite four nominations

Coldplay are quite possibly the most pompous, annoying bands around at the moment - with The Killers a close second - why do so many morons buy their music? It isn't the eighties anymore losers...

Estelle: 'Paxman treated Dizzee Rascal like an idiot'

'American Boy' singer slams the BBC presenter

Thu 18 Dec, 2008

Comments (1)

I don't think Paxman treated him like an idiot necessarily, but he treated him the way he treats everyone else that goes on the programme - infact I thought Paxman was actually a bit more polite and jovial with Dizzee than he is with many politicians who get a right grilling. I'm guessing Estelle perhaps doesn't watch much Newsnight?

Manic Street Preachers to release Richey Edwards-written album

The new album is set to be released next Spring

Tue 04 Nov, 2008

Comments (1)

Not sure what to make of this. The Holy Bible is one of the best albums of the past 20 years so i'd be excited to hear the Manics doing dark material again, but using Richey's lyrics? Some people might accuse them of cashing in on Richey....let's hope not...

Oasis' Liam Gallagher disappointed by Kings Of Leon

Singer brands the Followill clan sellouts

Fri 31 Oct, 2008

Comments (1)

I agree with Liam too - i'm a massive Kings of Leon fan since day one but the new album is a bit weak, the opening three and Be Somebody are tunes but the rest is very MOR - like someone else said, Fans - stick the rocking and forget about the radio!

London Astoria demolition plans finalised

Venue has been subjected to a compulsory purchase by the government today (Oct 17)

Fri 17 Oct, 2008

Comments (1)

Such a shame - Astoria is part and parcel of the London gig-goers routine. My first proper gig was Manic Street Preachers in 1994, the last shows with Richey James. There's that kind of history that will be lost forever. Plus, of all the London venues the Astoria actually works - the view from upstairs is just as good as downstairs. Boo-urns indeed.

Hear Kings Of Leon's new album early

'Only By The Night' tracks are on NME Radio tomorrow (Sept 19)

Thu 18 Sep, 2008

Comments (1)

If you didn't like Because of the Times then you won't like the new album....it's their most 'polished' work to date, slightly more pop/middle of the road - not drastically so but there's only really 3 stand out songs - Closer, Crawl and Be Somebody...

Gig ticket prices 'should be more honest'

Consumer body calls for companies to stop hiding booking and postage fees

Thu 29 May, 2008

Comments (1)

The biggest disgrace is the charge put on even when you pick tickets up at the box office - a while back it was free to pick up from box office, but now you're charged - even though this sits under the 'delivery charge' section!Whatever happens, ticket prices are only going to go up anyway as concerts are the main place for record companies to make money now that CDs are being phased out and more and more free music is available. I wouldn't be surprised if record comapnies start selling tickets themselves for their artists, paying the venues a fee and bypassing ticket agencies full stop.

Yet another artist who played last year. I'm going to enjoy Glasto for the new bands this year, but there's little to nothing new and exciting on the main stage. How about something a bit different?

Nine Inch Nails release new album free online

Trent Reznor's latest is available to download free now

Mon 05 May, 2008

Comments (1)

It's great that trent Reznor is treating us fans...it used to take him four years+ to make an album and now we get three in the space of a year....unfortunately the lack of quality shows that maybe he should take longer - With Teeth is the last great work he did and these recent efforts have been distinctly average at best, with a few gems few and far between....hopefully these are demos and off-cuts though....

Glastonbury festival line-up ? all stages revealed

Read the comprehensive line-up now on NME.COM

Tue 29 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

What about Saturday night then? Jay-Z, Massive Attack, Unkle, CSS, Biffy Clyro, The Proclaimers (joke) all on at the same time! What a kick in the balls....i would've gone to see all of em. That aside, the line up is bettered by the smaller stages - definitely worth exploring new music. Just checked out Yeasayer on myspace and am suitably impressed so will be checking them out. However much the large amount of new bands impresses, this is the kind of stuff you can see at smaller festivals around the UK (Field Day, Redfest etc) which are dedicated to new music and cost a hell of a lot less. I'm sure it'll be a great time, but just feel the Eavis' got turned down by some bigger hitters this year.

What a joke - thank God i got a free ticket this year. Glastonbury is definitely going to be a warm up for a proper festival, Werchter this year. This line up is something i'd expect to see at V - pop shite. Where's the rumoured Sex Pistols headliner? The Raconteurs should've been on before Kings of Leon on Friday night - the best slot on the bill....

Glastonbury encourages gig goers to take coach to festival

Michael Eavis says get on the bus

Thu 17 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

No chance! Last year the coaches were a bloody shambles. Queued for 2 1/2 hrs only for the queue to turn into a crowd and ending up at the back. Then the coach left half full, took the wrong turning and added an extra 4 hours to the journey back to London. None of the coach staff had a clue how to organise things, and didn't really bother...I'm happy with the fact i walk to work everyday to lower my carbon footprint!

I was at the gig - a third of the audience is a far exaggeration, more like about 30-40 people. And the band were happy enough with them being there.

The Who's Roger Daltrey: 'Weather to blame for Glasto downturn'

Glastonbury tickets still on sale

Limited number of tickets up for grabs

Mon 07 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

A combination of an uninspired headline trio and press getting on its back - particulalrly this weekend's Observer who suggested the Underage Festival as a better alternative to Glasto....I went to Glasto last year, the weather was horrendous, the journey home a nightmare (ten hours plus) but nevertheless had a great time and looked forward to this year's.Hadn't planned on going after hearing the line up, as I'm attending Rock Werchter the weekend after (which includes the three Glasto headers, but not as headliners - which makes more sense) but someone bought me a ticket so am looking forward to Glasto nonetheless, more so as i'm not 170 quid out of pocket!...I think if Kings/Verve were replaced with someone like Muse (e.g. a spectacle) it would be more enticing....Glasto needs to rediscover harder rock bands like Foo Fighters, QOTSA, Rage to offer more to the audience....no wonder Reading sold out so quickly - the line up there isn't amazing but it's got some balls!....

Reading and Leeds Festivals: 'We'll blow other festivals out of the water'

Boss claims 2008 will trump rivals like Glastonbury

Mon 31 Mar, 2008

Comments (1)

Interesting....i wouldn't call announcing The Killers as headliners as blowing the rest out of the water....infact UK festivals in general are pretty poor headliner-wise this year....they need to take a leave out of Werchter and Pinkpop festivals' books....
