Elbow's Guy Garvey: 'Something needs to be done about promoters ripping off young bands'

Frontman says pay-to-play schemes are 'playing on the hopes and dreams of musicians'

I totally agree with him, pay to play sucks. If you're band wanting a gig in London, check out www.CherryEkko.com running a gig in London every couple of months, bands collect votes to be able to play - no money, they just need votes - we need more of this kind of fair deal for new music.

Noel Gallagher mocks Liam at second post-Oasis London solo show

Guitarist plays second Teenage Cancer Trust show in two nights

Fri 26 Mar, 2010

Comments (1)

I totally agree - a large section of Oasis fans suck - they ruined the Wembly gigs in the summer by pissing in cups and lobbing them in the air. We now have 2 versions of Oasis - with Noel and Liam's backing band seemingly comprising the same set of people. Both writing new material, both still paying Oasis songs (I assume Liam will)... so yes, Noel, ditch the tossers - Liam can have them.

Lightning Seeds announce comeback album

Ian Broudie and co set for new album release in June

Fri 06 Feb, 2009

Comments (1)

whatawasteoftime - you make me depressed. The Lightning Seeds are a happy band - andb Ian Broudie is responsible for some of the most perfect pop (and you know good pop rocks) from the past 2 decades, and I don't just mean his own. Listen to Tilt (and I don't mean scott Walker, at this point anyhow) - it is a brilliant album. The return of Broudie to our ears, and to song writing, is great news, and I for one am happy to end the week on such a high.

Oasis' Noel Gallagher: 'Me and Liam should both do solo records'

Guitarist plans first 'separate' release to follow band's world tour

Thu 04 Dec, 2008

Comments (1)

As evident in DOYS, Noel's songs make an Oasis record. He's right - if Liam has so many songs, he should record a solo album rather than sullying the quality of Oasis records. It's easy to hide behind that Oasis name -things is, Liam CAN write a good song, so if he put out a record he'd hopefully raise his own quality control. The Noel record should be great too - I'd love a record of entirely Noel written songs, just like the first 2 Oasis records. Probably, a Noel solo record would be more Oasis than the last few Oasis albums!

Key indie label distributor company declared bankrupt

Pinnacle Entertainment responsible for over 400 indie labels

Wed 03 Dec, 2008

Comments (1)

This is sad - but it may herald the emergence of lots of little indie lables, truely doing things all by themselves - not relying on a distributer, just getting on with it - delivering records to local little shops by hand, but relying more in internet sales direct from their own site. The future, people, is to be found in sites like aralie.com, cherryekko.com, and sellaband.

The Music slam download culture

Rob Harvey feels disillusioned by the digital revolution

Fri 05 Sep, 2008

Comments (2)

This is a bit short-sighted - I don't agree that downloads make songs accessories - it depends on the manne rin whihc they are gained and the type of music they are. Where big bands can go it alone (radiohead), small bands need a community to use as a boost. Enter sites like CherryEcho.com, Noisetrade, and sellaband, even aralie and slice the pie. These allow a forum for bands to upload music, and the best will be succesful - it puts the power into the hands of the listener. If the music only appeals to a few, then only a few will listen, but if it appeals to lots then it can be succesful on a wider scale through these sites. CherryEcho.com alos aims to keep the CD format alive while utilising the power of the internet and free downloads. It's all about innovation people, and not being short-sighted.

Bloc Party to release new album this week

'Intimacy' is available to buy on Thursday (August 21)

Mon 18 Aug, 2008

Comments (1)

Best thing Bloc Party have ever done... releasing it this way I mean, and maybe the music itself, who knows! This is the way forward, long live the web usic revolution that just keeps getting better and stronger as leeches in suits get pushed out of the equation. Established bands like Bloc Party and Radiohead (though there's no other comparison between them of course) can do this alone and it'll work - but for new bands there are vrilliant sites like cherryecho.com and aralie to provide a starting boost.

Looks good - actually, Noisetrade.com has been doing this for a little while longer I believe - good site. And Cherryecho.com offers bands a profile where they can offer 12 free downloadable songs - so a whole album if they want! And also offers the chance of a £5,000 recording budget. Cherryecho, noisetrade, aralie, sellaband, slicethepie - it's good to see so many alternatives to major labels legally utilising the power od the mighty web!

'Ian Brown is stopping Stone Roses reunion'

Mani says the rest of the band members are up for it

Tue 15 Jul, 2008

Comments (1)

Oh come on - it's be totally overblow. What's the difference between an Ian Brown gig and a Stone Roses gig now that Ian plays SR songs anyway? The difference is that you only get to hear a small number of the songs Ian has written during his career, just because it says Stone Roses over the door. You can talk about how great a guitarist John Squire is, but seriously, I don't want to see him standig there playing for money, still hating the sight of Ian Brown and vice versa.

'Nearly 100 per cent of music fans copy music illegally'

Poll reveals fans' downloading and copying habits

Tue 17 Jun, 2008

Comments (1)

The comments here are mostly spot on - people realise that the music business is its own worst enemy. the massive amoutn of illegal downloading is part of the battle to revolutionise the music industry - I don't condone it, but I understand why it happens. Real music fans and savvy new bands are seeking legal alternatives, coming up from the roots and using the internet as a tool to promote music for free, and share financial rewards fairly. The bands in the know are using site like Sellaband, slicethenpie, and cherryecho.com to share their music and work towards getting paid for making it.

Ultimately downloading free music is good for music fans - it promotes more competition and means bands have to work harder and create better music. BUT there are plenty of LEGAL downloads out there - use sites like sellaband, cherryecho.com, and slicethepie, that's where smart new bands are uploading their music and gaining a fanbase - it may take time, but sites like these will ultimately force more and more mainstream acts to be more generous.

Pink Floyd shunned by Glastonbury? - Tabloid Hell

Eavis says no to Gilmour's offer to perform this year

Mon 02 Jun, 2008

This is clearly rubbish - The Sun writer probably doesn't even know anything about Pink Floyd. 'Roger Waters doing 'Dark Side Of The Moon' is like Ringo doing 'Sgt Pepper's'

Death Cab For Cutie are not impressed by fellow Coachella act

Tue 13 May, 2008

Comments (1)

Ha ha!Perhaps they have a point as Gilmour did write a lot of the album - but maybe it's payback for Gilmour, Mason, and wright touring as Pink Flod, and playing Roger's songs. Roger Waters has said before how frustrating it was to play solo gigs to so few people, when Gilmour's Floyd were raking it in playing his songs to thousands of people!Ringo should do Sgt Pepper! If nothing else, it would be a great freak show! Actually, maybe he should record a new album 'Sgt Pepper 2' - he wrote the line 'Father McEnzie writing a sermon that no-one will hear' - so, he's capable of penning some good stuff!www.cherryecho.com/jeff

Hot Chip 'free downloads hurt small bands'

Band say the music industry is 'in turmoil'

Thu 08 May, 2008

Comments (1)

Rubbish - free downloada re the way forward. MP£ and CD can live happily together. Arctic Monkeys were not big UNTIL they gave their demos away free - not after they'd gained a following like Radiohead. And sites like myspace.com and new ones like CherryEcho.com give new bands a boost by offering them a platform to give away free music. But CherryEcho also releases EPs on CD too. More choice, better value - it's only the music industry as we know it that's dying, the future is bright!
