I agree with most of the above comments. This cover isn't challenging or provocative or good in the way NME seems to think it is. It's wrong for many reasons. 1. It's completely pushing past the "music" aspect of what I thought was the New Musical Express and focusing entirely on the appearance of someone in a band2. She is morbidly obese and highlighting this is glorifying over-eating and an unhealthy lifestyle. If it was the front cover of the medical health journal then it might have bad connotations but you are putting this woman on a pedastal of "cool", and by promoting her image alongside this "cool" tag you are associating her weight with being cool.3. It's airbrushed to high heaven which ironically defeats any bold point (if there ever was a point) in having a fat woman naked on the magazine in some sick "punk" way.4. How can a magazine cover that makes people feel ill be the best cover of all time? There's a magazine on my floor with a bog-standard photograph of John Lennons face for the cover which is 1000x better than this trite, and it's not even a great picture of Lennon.
