I agree with world of spleen. At my school we learnt of the "wide range of musical traditions" throughout the earlier years of music, before getting to GCSE, at which stage I believe it's important to learn staff notation. I'd be miffed as fuck to end up with a GCSE in music but unable to read it!

Ah, all you young'uns...Trailer wasn't a singles compilation, just a mini album. It spawned three singles, the debut: Jack Names The Planets, and also Petrol and Uncle Pat. Whilst some bands might showcase a mini-album which contains their first singles and the b-sides from them (Midget, Lemon Jelly, etc) this is not the case here. It's an awesome mini-album, and everyone should own it! NME have it right though I think, mini-albums shouldn't class as a band's debut, as they are more like EPs than albums, more of a showcase of their style rather than a hard grafted well produced long-player, like 1977. (Although Jamie Fullerton: don't you work for NME...?) Awesome album, can't wait for the show!!

Jay-Z to pull out of Glastonbury?

Organisers deny rapper will pull headline slot at Worthy Farm

It's been said many a time before on these pages, but it's because it's true: to not buy a ticket to Glastonbury because of the strength of ONE act (or even three, if you're close-minded enough to not like any of the headliners) really is missing the point. I'm just glad that you people complaining aren't going to be there this year, and I won't have to listen to you whinging that you can't see, or hear, or that the queues are too long, or the beer is over-priced, or that you've got mud on your precious new converse all-stars. Seriously, what happened to having a diverse musical taste? If you think that Oasis will be a better headliner than Jay-Z I suggest you buy a ticket to one of the more bland, M.O.R. festivals there are out there, like V. You're worse than Emily from Big Brother.

Radiohead to release 'Best Of' compilation

See what tracks have made the cut

gergbot: Talk Show Host was a b-side on Street Spirit (Fade Out) years before it was used in Romeo + Juliet. General feelings of dismay are felt about Parlophone releasing this, and what's up with the running order? surely some kind of chronology would be a good thing for new fans? If you want to get into Radiohead, buy The Bends and see which direction that takes you. I did, and I haven't looked back.
