I think Adele has a genuine talent, but I think it's sad that she was pushed into releasing an album a year too early just so that her record company could ride the crest of the Winehouse wave. Her voice has a depth and range that Duffy could only dream of, but XL's decision to push her into an early release meant that her voice effectively rattled around a set of lacklustre songs. If she'd signed for a label like Parlophone as it existed before Terra Firma stepped in she would have been hot-housed, kid-gloved, given the time to practice her chops, mature and generally grow even hungrier. Anyone who saw her accomplished performance at the Mercurys earlier this year will have seen the power and potential the girl possesses.
