To be honest, they have a point. They're by no means guilt-free of it themselves, but the real irony is that most of the stuff that's labeled as 'indie' is only popular because the NME tells people to like it. It's basically Smash Hits for the 'I don't want to listen to your generic music, so I'm going to listen to someone else's' crowd. It seems that all you need to do in an indie band these days is be able to play a barre chord (which in turn means you can play three barre chords), and shout over the top of it. That's hardly talent.
