Band explain how they nearly had an 'Oscar moment' at the Shockwaves NME Awards
Fri 29 Feb, 2008
I have spent over half my life following the Manics and I can't think of more deserving recipients of the award - in fact I can't understand why it's taken so long.
Why I think I still care after all these years is that I really believe what they have to say - you get John McClure or Tom Clarke spouting off and you think it's just bullshit or soundbite. Also, Tom looked like a total imposter strumming along to "You Love Us" last night.
I have seen the Manics about 20 times now. I never get tired of them, they have such diversity in their set list. I was honoured to be in their presence last night, seeing my favourite band get the most important award from my favourite magazine.
Thank You the Manics and Thank You the NME for last night. It was amazing.
To paraphrase James, a statment that relates to both parties "sometimes vicious, always fucking care"

Tom Clarke labels the Sheffield band as 'dull'
Wed 30 Jan, 2008
Sadly it seems the Enemy are more interested in taking the soundbite way to making it rather than blowing people away with their music - already had a fight with Alex Zane and now taking the Arctics on. One NME nomination (that they won't win) against the Monkey's seven is testament to what the people think - as well as sales and chart position. I like the Enemy's singles and they were half decent live but don't go thinking you've delivered a killer album.
