Manic Street Preachers: 'Winning Godlike award was so emotional'

Band explain how they nearly had an 'Oscar moment' at the Shockwaves NME Awards

I have spent over half my life following the Manics and I can't think of more deserving recipients of the award - in fact I can't understand why it's taken so long. Why I think I still care after all these years is that I really believe what they have to say - you get John McClure or Tom Clarke spouting off and you think it's just bullshit or soundbite. Also, Tom looked like a total imposter strumming along to "You Love Us" last night. I have seen the Manics about 20 times now. I never get tired of them, they have such diversity in their set list. I was honoured to be in their presence last night, seeing my favourite band get the most important award from my favourite magazine. Thank You the Manics and Thank You the NME for last night. It was amazing. To paraphrase James, a statment that relates to both parties "sometimes vicious, always fucking care"
