Kings Of Leon play 'last English gig for a long time' at Leeds Festival

The Followills bring festival to a close with Main Stage headlining slot

Sun 30 Aug, 2009

Comments (1)

Its such a shame what happened to KOL, they were one of the best bands in the world a few years ago. The first two albums were brilliant. The southern country rock of the debut was just what the music scene needed at the time. What the hell has happened to them? OBTN is mediocre at best. Like an earlier poster mentioned, the Use Somebody video is cringe-worthy. I remember watching them back in 2003 when they played to around 80 people and hung around the bar afterwards for a beer with the crowd and the other bands on the bill that night. Its a shame those days are over and they have turned into a Bon Jovi/U2 hybrid. Cant blame them for becoming massive, I am glad they have had the success, but the quality of the music paid the price. They need to take a load of time off and come back with a blues/country/folk style album and see if they can gain back some of their credibility. I last saw them a year ago in Manchester and the crowd was full of chavs and scenester girls. It made me sick! There was one group of girls who spent a good portion of the gig posing so that the stage was behind them and getting other concert-goers to take pics of them with the band in the background!

Glastonbury festival boss: 'Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young are our best headliners ever'

Michael Eavis is so impressed he even pays The Boss' £3000 fine

Sun 28 Jun, 2009

Comments (1)

I'd agree with Eavis on this one. The comment about Neil especially, i'm not just saying it because i'm a massive fan of his, but he really does blow everyone else out of the water. He is easily the greatest artist that started in the 1960s that is still performing. Even ahead of Dylan and the Stones. Springteen was incredible too. I dont understand why dickheads come out with comments having a dig at their age. Who bloody cares how old they are? Music and musicians were miles better in their day than the majority of garbage we have today.

Ex-Stone Roses star John Squire to launch first major solo art exhibition

Any true fan of The Stone Roses will appreciate the fact that a reunion nowadays would be utterly disastrous and completely fuck up the band's legacy. I'm aware that pretty much anything would be better than the Reading 96 appearance but i'ld still rather they left it as it is. For the record, shityourlegoff, Squire's art is brilliant, and diverse for that matter. Certainly not just "tedious splattered paint canvases" as you incorrectly state.

I agree the new album is weak, but it still has a few class tracks on there. Cold Desert, Notion, Revelry and I Want You are all superb, but all in all it doesn't even come close to their first two records. I'm hoping for the next album they will go back to their roots and write a quality gritty southern rock album - they are certainly capable of doing so again. Mon 13 Oct, 2008

I don’t understand this “Get everyone else to play and write the music” thing that you mentioned. If this were true it would say so on the album sleeves. I can only assume you have some personal vendetta against the individual members of Massive Attack for some weird reason because there really is no justification to talk down about their music or their songwriting abilities. They have never done a bad record; literally everything they have ever done is pure quality. I think you just need to accept that Del Naja and Grant Marshall write the music and lyrics. It’s a fact, not a matter of opinion. I find it strange that in this day and age of such incomprehensibly terrible ‘music’ from shite-merchants such as The Ting Tings, Wombats, Hoosiers, Kaiser Chiefs, The Twang, Razorlight etc etc etc, that you can criticize Massive Attack!! We need more bands like them.

whatawasteoftime, how apt your name is. Calling KOL "talentless dullards" is hillarious and pathetic at the same time. If you don't like like them then DON'T FUCKING LISTEN TO THEM!! Jesus Christ, the idiocy of some people is unbelievable. KOL are easily one of, if not THE greatest bands on the planet right now. Looking at your profile I see you are a yank so its not actually that surprising that you don't know shit about music. You can't even recognise your country's own best bands. I bet you think The Shins and Fleet Foxes are no good too don't you? And stumbeleine01, I've heard quite a few of the recent bootlegged tracks and they definitely don't have anything to worry about regarding how good the songs are. This band can do no wrong.

Anyone that went to their live shows before Christmas will testify to that. And as for Kings Of Leon, what the fuck are you talking about? Calebs voice is just incredible, they are amazing musicians and they have quality songs. To call them crap is an absolute joke! You think last years line up was fabulous do you? Bloody hell, you really do know fuck all! The Killers are shite and Arctic Monkeys can't hold a candle to the likes of KOL and The Verve. You'd be doing yourself and everyone else a massive favour if you didn't bother going to any festivals, ever again.

Neil Young set to release new album

'Toast' will be the first in a series of new offerings

Wed 02 Apr, 2008

GeeDub, what does the fact that the songs are 8 years old have to do with anything? Its NEIL YOUNG we're talking about here, of course the songs are gonna be good. Did you catch him on his recent tour, he was excellent and can 'milk' us all he wants! I just hope he tours with Crazy Horse again - and I hope the archives are released soon too!

Milburn to split

Arctic Monkeys' mates announce farewell gig

Tue 01 Apr, 2008

Comments (1)

I agree with all of the above. Its a massive shame that Milburn have decided to split. NME were stupid to slag them off so much, and for no good reason too. They were a great band and deserved miles more respect. The most ridiculous thing people said about them is that they copied off Arctic Monkeys, when in reality it was more like the other way round! Best of luck in whatever your future plans are lads.
