Nicky Wire 'gutted' when Manics missed Top 40 for first time since 1991

'Some Kind Of Nothingness' went in at Number 44

Fri 04 Feb, 2011

Comments (1)

At his age, Nicky Wire should understand that his band is never as good as when they're not trying too hard. Both Tigers and Journal were sincere records and they were really good. Postcards has its moments, but it's just trying too hard to be a commercially successful record and it shows, especially on this terrible single. It's just bland... It's probably not the reason, because there are plenty of singles that are as bland and vulgar as this, but it really doesn't deserve to be any higher.

Don't worry, you won't have to try hard, just release a second album and the press will slam you for not being as good as you used to be, and then forget you when they have found new darlings.

The Beatles' music finally available to download on iTunes

'It has been a long and winding road to get here,' says Steve Jobs

Tue 16 Nov, 2010

Comments (1)

I can see why it's a big deal for music distribution and it's kind of symbolic, and it's just cool because it's the damn Beatles and now anyone can buy their songs on iTunes (let's think about those who don't know them yet for once) but can anyone tell Macca The Beatles entered the digital world in 1987 ?

So how about getting your shit together one last time, do a gig in Paris' Stade de France, with that setlist, so you can go out on a high note for the french, italian and german fans you let down last summer ? That would be great... It will definitely not happen but it would be great.

U2 start work on new album

The Edge says they've got "something really special"

Fri 22 Jan, 2010

Comments (1)

It is a good record, but they should have gone all the way and released the "difficult" songs as singles. Moment Of Surrender should have made it. People who only heard Boots or Crazy Tonight may have thought it was a weak album with easy pop songs (if they heard them at all), and they missed the beauty of Fez, Cedars of Lebanon or Unknown Caller. Great to know they're already working on the next one anyway, let's hope it will be No Life On The Horizon's Zooropa. We still need them.

Morrissey apologises to fans for his last album 'disaster'

Singer has also written about collapsing onstage in Swindon

Wed 16 Dec, 2009

Comments (1)

Surely this can't be related to the fact that it's a compilation of B sides from recent Morrissey singles, that is something that appeal to absolutely no one except die hard Morrissey fans who won't even buy it for the music, as they already own the damn songs, but just because it will fill a void in their shelves. That MUST be Universal's fault, right ?

Oasis new single previewed online

Clip of 'The Shock Of The Lightning' is available to hear now

Wed 30 Jul, 2008

Comments (2)

That sure is a short preview. It sounds promising, I like that bit of organ in the background. Who's expecting anything else than some pretty good songs from them anyway ? It's just good to have them around, just like Primal Scream. They'll probably never release another classic again, but they've already released two of them (three if you count the Masterplan which is a compilation made of classic B sides) and they still make good rock'n'roll. And they still have the second best british rock frontman alive (next to Gillespie, of course). That's fine by me.

Oasis exclusive: new album and single details announced

The Gallaghers' new album will be out in October

Tue 24 Jun, 2008

Comments (1)

Shit titles, but what Noel says about the record sounds promising, and Dave Sardy did a great job on Don't Believe The Truth so that should be a good one. They've only been going for 15 years. Lots of great bands have been going on for even longer than this : Primal Scream, Spiritualized, New Order (well, they seem to have split up for good now), R.E.M, Depeche Mode, Ian Brown... 15-20 years is a beautiful age for a band, and Don't Believe The Truth showed that they were still capable of writing pretty good songs and record them the right way.

Coldplay follow Oasis with Thursday album release (June 12)

Is 'Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends' the new 'Be Here Now'?

Thu 12 Jun, 2008

Comments (2)

Can't be. They've already released their Be Here Now with X&Y (ridiculous anticipation, overproduced, too long, not enough good songs...), so this one's more like their Standing On The Shoulder of Giants. Which isn't very promising either. But Violet Hill is alright.

I think Trailer wasn't a proper album, but a compilation of their first singles. So it's technically the first album they released but the first "real" album was 1977.
