Ladytron reveal 'Best Of' plans

Liverpool band to release the collection to mark their 10 year anniversary

Thu 12 Nov, 2009

Comments (1)

I would much prefer to see them concentrating on a new album and follow up on the excellent 'Velocifero'. I personally thought that their last 2 releases were the strongest as they had expanded on their sound and songewriting. I hardly listen to the first 2 records these days. More power to a new album.

Lily Allen: 'I won't release another album'

Singer says she won't be renewing her record contract

Thu 24 Sep, 2009

Comments (1)

This just shows a lack of passion for music. Is music just a hobby for her and now she is bored with it? I've always had suspicions about the extra help she has received as a result of her famous ties in her family. She'll try acting now.If she cares about smaller acts and file-sharing then fine. But this is a huge statement about the passion she has for her own music and systematic of people in the music business wanting fame or celebrity.

Jay-Z tells Andrew Marr: 'Rappers are the poets of our generation'

Rapper squares up for a heavy-weight political chat

Mon 21 Sep, 2009

Comments (1)

It's refreshing to hear some of the points Jay-Z makes but I think rap is just one aspect of modern music that can lay claim to the new generation of poets. Let's not forget the endless over produced drivel, bling, fast cars and women in rap music/videos, dripping in cliche and self parody before declaring poet status. But in essence, anyone who writes music with lyrics can be construed as poets. Some of course better than others ;)

Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2009: runners and riders

With just one day until this year's winner is announced, here's NME.COM's rundown on 2009's nominees

Mon 07 Sep, 2009

Comments (1)

I would like to see Bat for Lashes win the award. Great album and unique. Unfortunately I have a feeling La Roux may take the award although I don't particularly feel it's a strong album in terms of songwriting. Singles are catchy but it's all a little one paced with lack of variety.Friendly Fires have a great sound, I wouldn't be disappointed to see that album take home the onoins. My opinion of the horrors record changes, one day it's the greatest, another the worst.

No 'Drowned world/substitute for love'. One of her best and introspective moments. Oh well, I guess this compilation entitled 'Celebration'. Shame really.

Well said Ron. Honest answer right there and I'm sure the Man Utd lads will have been responsible for getting that boy Ronaldo into Oasis. You will be missed, great player.

Alan McGee: 'Glasvegas could be biggest in the world'

Former Creation man talks about Shockwaves NME Awards Glasgow gig

Sat 31 Jan, 2009

Comments (1)

For me there are some aspects of what Alan Mcghee says that ring true, having been born and brought up in Glasgow my whole life there is an identity within the sound and lyrics that is raw and gives a certain representation of the Glasgow sound, albeit with a not to previous Glasgow bands such as the jesus and mary chain and my bloody valentine.I still have a problem with the heavily accented vocals, in the same way as say Scouting for Girls or Kate Nash....but if you are getting big shows in the US on the strength of your sound then fair play to the boys.Looking at the NME shockwaves line-up I think White Lies write the better songs, & perhaps their subject matter is centred on the more universal colderdarker feelings whereas Glasvegas success is grounded in the heart of Glasgow.

The Cure declared Shockwaves NME Awards 2009 Godlike Geniuses

Band to be honoured and play live at February's ceremony

Tue 28 Oct, 2008

Brilliant decision & thoroughly merited too. One of the most respected bands out there who have never compromised yet have remained a corner-stone of british music for 30 years now. And did I mention the beauty of the music, I'm delighted to hear this.

Mark Ronson lashes out at Noel Gallagher

Producer hits back at Oasis leader over 'three chords' comment

Sun 17 Aug, 2008

Comments (1)

I think with any of these things you have to realise the context things are said in. Anyone who knows what Noel is like in these interviews has a good understanding of the vibe in the room at that time and the comedy therein. It's just a shame Mr Ronson has decided to take the bait and print a reposte, but there you are...egos easily dented.

Hear brand new Bloc Party album track now

Listen to 'Trojan Horse' now on NME.COM

Tue 19 Aug, 2008

I'm a fan of their recent progression of sound despite silent alarm being a really good album, however this track doesn't excite me too much. Cluttered sounding without too much sparkle.

The Hold Steady: 'Radiohead have lost the plot'

Band criticise Oxford quintet's pay what you want plan

Sun 17 Aug, 2008

Comments (1)

The Hold Steady criticising Radiohead with what really amounts to tired comments from a tired derivitave sounding rock band. It's those kind of attitudes that only serve to highlight the simplistic ideals of a band like the Hold Steady which funnily enough is actually played out perfectley in their own one dimensional sounding music :)

Trent Reznor: Johnny Cash cover felt 'like someone kissing your girlfriend'

Nine Inch Nails man speaks out about 'Hurt' cover

Fri 01 Aug, 2008

Comments (1)

I much preferred Reznors version, it came from a dark dark place & you feel that atmosphere throughout......although you sensed Cash sang it from a more autobiographical perspective which was frank & honsest.

Oasis new single previewed online

Clip of 'The Shock Of The Lightning' is available to hear now

Wed 30 Jul, 2008

Comments (1)

It makes you realise just how many good songs Oasis have made over the years. Even from the small snippet of 'The shock of the lightning' sounds as if it's going to be another belter of a track.

I'm surprised Sir Terry is taking this so seariously given his hilarious flippant commentary. It's just fun and nonsense really, including the voting so surely it has to be enjoyed in that way.

Music fans picking Wikipedia over MySpace?

Fans looking for band info reveal their web preferences

Tue 25 Mar, 2008

Comments (1)

The problem with myspace is that most bands don't give out their difinitive history and list of albums on their front page as opposed to wikipedia. If you have a myspace account and are searching for a band it can beome a bit fiddly in terms of other users using the same name as the band you are searching for, hence the search taking longer. Ultimately though the myspace site contains the music and artistic outlay for the band.
