Government to tackle illegal downloaders through Digital Britain report

Plus all radio stations are to turn digital by 2015

about 8 years too late then. the landscape has changed forever. it's interesting how it's only since broadcasters and movie producers have started shitting themselves about the same thing happening to them as the has happened to the music industry that anything gets done. its not an empowering time to be a musician, quite the opposite. it's depressing and fucked. ask anybody trying to make a living from music.

Prosecution calls for Pirate Bay founders to be jailed

The prosecution has given its closing statement in the case

i for one hope they go down. they're not only arrogant, they have also played a large role in fucking the music industry beyond repair. I have countless musician friends who even have record deals and they are all working fulltime regular jobs because music simply doesn't pay anymore. It will be interesting to see if people are still raving about p2p file sharing once you only have 'the script', 'scouting for girls' and 'coldplay' records to buy. i for one, won't be laughing.

BPI hit back at claims music piracy is 'like stealing soap from a hotel room'

Recent UK government comments infuriate the music industry

Tue 27 Jan, 2009

Comments (1)

the BPI are not entirely to blame. The labels deserve it, they are the ones that have generated an inflated world where money was pissed away like rainwater and now they have no answer to it. You always have to remember that in the end of the day piracy hurts the bands and musicians the most. people often say... oh music costs nothing to make, what difference does it make? well.. ive been a musician in the industry for 10 years and I've yet to meet anyone whos made an album/single/ep for free. so why should it be treated as such by the online community? and as for the government? well a multi billion pound industry has pretty much died over night on their watch. nothing new there then.lol.

Apple to shut down iTunes?

An argument over royalty fees is due to be settled soon

somewhere along the line the entire thing is going to collapse. being a musician i find it really annoying to hear ignorant bullshit attitudes like 'people being on their moral high horse'. as an unsigned musician ive spent literally thousands of pounds of my own money to pursue making music for a living and the idea that somehow, out of all art forms 'music' is the exception that should always be free because the p2p software is there is fucking outrageous. sure its exciting that the power has been taken away from the majors who have screwed musicians for years but turns out apple are just another major really. people really need to get their heads around the real cost of all of this. the people that write and perform the music earn the least from it. since when did everyone start doing things for free. you want your house built, you call a builder. if at the end of making the house you say to him... sorry, ain't gonna pay you mate, he'd take you to court. why should a musician make barely NOTHING from the pleasure of appearing on apples monolpoly? really, its fucking out of hand.

proof if anyone needed it that the death of the album cd is much closer than we all realised. if the biggest metal band on the planet can only shift 75,000 in first week then the industry is on its last legs. shocking.

The Music slam download culture

Rob Harvey feels disillusioned by the digital revolution

Fri 05 Sep, 2008

Comments (1)

I totally agree with him. Im in an unsigned band and while it's fine for bands who have had success pre-file sharing madness who can afford to tour, record and promote themselves, without a deal this becomes almost impossible. And while I appreciate that music has in some ways benefitted from the fact that people with real drive are the only ones left, it does mean that we have also developed a culture of gimmick bands, one hit wonders and unstustainable careers. I still applaud radiohead for having taken on the majors and saying... fuck you, we're not gonna bow to your water tight contracts which screw us financially anyway. For small bands this is just a really hard time to make records. My bands just spent £8000 on a modest recording, working on a really tight budget with a proper producer, not everyone can record in their bedroom. But we've done It cause we believe in it and want people to hear it. Musicians just have to seek other ways of making money now. And as such I can only think that ultimately music suffers. If people look at the industry and say... its all shit. You have to ask yourself before you download the next free thing on limewire or whatever... am I fueling it?

We Are Scientists think Rage Against The Machine are pretentious

New Yorkers say bands shouldn't get political

Tue 26 Aug, 2008

bunch of fools trapped in freshman year of uni? that's fresh coming from 'we are scientists'. just cause they play pointless, vapid, art school nonsense they can't actually cope with a band who not only rock about 6000 times more than them but do so with a conscience. they don't like bands talking about politics? so like, they dont like dylan? neil young? radiohead? rem? fuck off please and pleeeeeease stop making records. we are scientists? go back to the lab and leave music to the big boys. tsk.

good on you alison. pete's a junkie, nothing more, nothing less. and you shouldnt glorify junkies. and most of the stuff that has any impact at all has nothing to do with talent. its a factory made, fashion driven, coke snorting pile of bullshit. its just a shame the people that buy the records dont realise that the music industry is a fraud. it has nothing to do with music. pete is not a genius. hes a twat. and duffy's a band wagon jumper.

you gotta feel sorry for the guy, drug addiction ain't funny and it it's even unfunnier when the combined music press and tabloids give him the oxygen that puts him there in the first place. leave the guy the fuck alone and let him beat his demons. and certainly don't fucking release some trite tribute to him if he ever kills himself. pete and a lot of other people need to fucking grow up, and fast.
