Trained by Julian Bream at London's Royal Academy of Music, he was a successful session guitarist in the late 60's and went to play with his own band The Congregation. Much of Parker's session work has gone uncredited, but recently he has been named as the electric guitarist on Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man"".
He also played on The Walker Brothers's "No Regrets".
He was composer Jerry Goldsmith's orchestrator for many years and was called on by Howard Shore to help him out with some of the music for The Lord of the Rings. He also was the Composer for the British Film Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker. Parker is now a successful composer for film and TV including What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, Rhodes, Victoria and Albert for which Alan was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award, Walking With Cavemen, Fallen Angel, Family, ITN's News At Ten, Jaws 3-D and Coast for the BBC.
He has worked with Donovan, Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Dusty Springfield, Tony Bennett, Mick Jagger, Serge Gainsbourg, Kate Bush, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Dave Clark and CCS
