Ana was born into a Mexican family of mixed descent; her father, Raul Araujo was of Spanish ethnicity, while her mother Isabel Young was the daughter of Chinese immigrants. She first sang on the stage at age six, when she sang "Regalo A Dios" by Jose Alfredo Jimenez. She moved to Tijuana, Baja California, where she studied accounting. When she was 21 years old she recorded her first song, entitled "Comprendeme" in 1977. During her long career, she has hits in three different genres of music: rock en espanol, Latin Pop, and rancheras. In 2006 she received the Lo Nuestro award's "Premio a la Excelencia" (Excellence Award).
Although a music collection promotes her and fellow Mexican singer Juan Gabriel as "Los Gabriel" (The Gabriels), they are not related to each other.
