Black Kids Biography

Formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 2006, the line-up of this US indie rock band comprises Dawn Watley (keyboards, vocals), Ali Youngblood (keyboards, vocals), Reggie Youngblood (guitar, vocals), Owen Holmes (bass), and Kevin Snow (drums). The latter trio had previous experience of playing together, although both Honey Locust and Cubby were spectacularly unsuccessful. With the introduction of an all-female keyboard section, the provocatively titled Black Kids played a handful of support slots in their native Jacksonville before making an eye-opening appearance at the Athens Popfest in Georgia in August 2007. The same month they released their debut EP, Wizard Of Ahhhs, via download only. The EP took off on the Internet and within the space of a month the Black Kids found themselves as one of the most talked about new bands of the year. Fortunately, there was ample musical support to back up the hype, not least the highly catchy indie pop of "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You". The latter was released as a single in April 2008 on the Almost Gold Recordings label.
