Deep Purple - Bananas: Wikipedia Album Entry
Bananas is the 17th album by Deep Purple. It was recorded in early 2003 and released in November 2003. It is the first Deep Purple album recorded without the founding member, Jon Lord, who retired from the band in 2002. He is, however, credited as co-author of 2 compositions on the album. Lord was replaced by veteran keyboard player, Don Airey, who played, among other bands, in Rainbow.
It is the first album in Deep Purple's history to feature a backup singer from outside the band - Beth Hart - who sang backing vocals on "Haunted".
The album closes with a short instrumental piece called "Contact Lost", written by Steve Morse after he heard of the spaceshuttle Columbia's crash. Steve Morse was writing through e-mail with one of the astronauts, who was a fan of Deep Purple. 2 Deep Purple and 1 Rainbow CD's were on board of Colombia. They were found among the debris after the disaster.
This was the first Deep Purple album recorded by Mark VIII, the current (as of November 2010) line-up of the band, which features:
