Deep Purple - The Battle Rages On: Wikipedia Album Entry
The Battle Rages On is the fourteenth studio album by Deep Purple, released in 1993. Initial works on the album started while Joe Lynn Turner was still in the band but the rest soon realized that the only way to fully celebrate the band's 25th anniversary would be by reuniting the classic Mark II line-up. Ian Gillan was asked to come back (after being fired 3 years earlier). The album received mixed reviews. It reached only #192 on The Billboard 200 and the single - the title track - climbed up to #22 on Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks.
The band embarked on a tour but tensions between Gillan and Blackmore grew again and this time it was Blackmore, who left the band in the midst of the European tour in November 1993. Joe Satriani was brought in as a temporary replacement for the rest of the tour and Steve Morse joined permanently the next year and has played with the band ever since.
It was the seventh and last Deep Purple album recorded by the classic Mark II line-up, as Blackmore never returned to the band.
