There’s a danger with lending your songs to other people – they might play them better – but NY’s experimental wizards have done just that. CSS’ ‘Knife’ and Band Of Horses’ ‘Plans’ both introduce a certain edge, while the quartet’s covers of their own efforts (!) are woozy soundscapes of squeaky horns. Or, the sound of indulgence backfiring. GC
