King was sentenced to seven years in prison in November 2001 after being convicted of sexually assaulting five teenage boys, aged 14 to 16, between 1983 and 1989. He was refused permission to appeal in January 2003 by the Court of Appeal in London, and was released on parole in March 2005. As of November 2007, an appeal against the Court of Appeal's decision was before the European Court of Human Rights. King has maintained his innocence, arguing that he could not defend himself adequately because of the length of time that had passed since the incidents.
