Klaxons: Myths Of The Future

New rave founders put some colour back into indie’s pale exterior

New rave: the plaything of a group of east London art kids; a multi-tentacled neon revolution; a rebirth of punk flying alongside the soul of dance music and under the influence of lost weekends on interstellar ketamine terror-cruises. And you know what else? It’s a fucking albatross around the neck of the most thrilling and visionary band Britain’s had in more than a decade. Klaxons?...

It's finally here and thank Christ, it's nothing like the album it could have been. Yay for slave-driving major labels!

Klaxons - A Bugged Out Mix by Klaxons: Wikipedia Album Entry

A band who nowadays can't be namechecked without "the Mercury Prize winning" as a prefix, the Mercury Prize winning Klaxons have been recruited for this latest Bugged Out compilation. The band have their selections divided over two discs: the first is a compilation of 'going out' type sounds, while the other is dedicated to home listening. Disc one opens up with Luke Vibert's Breakbeat Metal Music in all its vocodered lunacy, going on to take in sounds from Justice, Johannes Heil, Overnoise and The Chemical Brothers. This first mix closes with the Brodinski remix of Klaxons' version of It's Not Over Yet which dissipates away into an Aleister Crowley monologue, soaked in ungodly crackle. On a very different slant, Zager & Evans' In The Year 2525 gets things off to a very odd, very dramatised beginning followed up on with some Wu-Tang Clan, Fad Gadget and more contemporary weirdness from Liars. Elsewhere the marvellous United States Of America fire up with The Garden Of Earthly Delights and artists as fine and varied as Cluster, Ariel Pink, Blur and Roy Orbison all make appearances.
