She performed at the 2007 O2 Wireless Festival and also performed at the first Underage Festival in August 2007 at Victoria Park, East London. Her television appearances include The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson where she performed the song "Ghosts" and Later with Jools Holland where she performed the song "New Romantic".
Her debut single "Ghosts" came out on WayOutWest Records, with subsequent singles out on Virgin Records. Her debut album Alas, I Cannot Swim was released on 4 February 2008 and was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Prize. She released "Night Terror", the third and final single from her album, on 27 October 2008. Her 6-date Night Terror tour started in November 2008.
Marling is a former member of the band Noah and the Whale and performs on their debut album Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down from which the hit "5 Years Time" was taken. Charlie Fink, lead singer of Noah and the Whale, produced Marling's album.
She appeared on The Rakes track "Suspicious Eyes", from the band's second album Ten New Messages and Mystery Jets single "Young Love" released 10 March, 2008 from their second album.
In 2008 she appeared with her sister on the Russell Brand Radio 2 show.
She was once denied access to one of her own performances for being underage. She instead chose to perform on the street.
