History and Trivia
Metallica performed this album as a Live Concert only on both April 21 and April 22, 1999. The album was never studio recorded.
Metallica recorded only two performances with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra which was primarily conducted by Michael Kamen.
Kamen, had also worked closely during the production Rock on "Nothing Else Matters".
Kamen contacted the band in 1991 proposing a dual composition between the Orchestra and the Metallica band.
Kamen worked with his dedicated staff to compose 100 orchestra based symphonies for Metallica songs.
James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich brought in two new songs for integration with Kamen's demonstrations.
These were "No Leaf Clover" and "-Human" which before the Live Concert had never been performed infront of an audience.
The compositions were released in late 1999 which contained both the audio and footage contained. This was legitimately name "S&M - Although an Acronym was named the "Official" Title of the Album.
The album was noted on the Billboard 200 at number two, and on the Australian ARIA charts and Top Internet Albums chart at number one.
