Queens of Noize Biography

Queens of Noize are an indie/disco DJ duo based in London, England. The constituent members are Mairead Nash and Tabitha Denholm. Their career began in 2002 at Club 333 in Shoreditch, and since then their club night has moved to the Camden Barfly and they have performed at many different festivals and clubs internationally, including the Carling Weekend, Roskilde Festival and Festival Internacional de Benicassim, and have presented their own show on MTV2. They have also released their own single, "Indie Boys (Don't Deserve It)", to little critical or commercial success. They are well-known in the British music press for their strong links with the up-and-coming stars of the London indie scene, both business and romantic; between them they have been linked with Johnny Borrell, Pete Doherty, Elton Welsby, Jason Stollsteimer and Ted 'Roland Shanks' Pearce, and Zezi Ifore among others. They inspired the name of Pete Doherty's band Babyshambles after nicknaming him "Babyshambles" and his fellow Libertine Carl Barat "Papashingles". The tracks "Mairead" by Von Bondies, "No Good Time" by Graham Coxon and "Golden Touch" by Razorlight are said to be about Nash.

They started presenting a new radio show in September 2006 on BBC 6 Music, Saturdays at 4pm, called Queens of Noize Sonic Safari. Their Saturday afternoon time-slot was taken over by Lauren Laverne on May 31, 2008 and The Queens now host a different two-hour show on BBC 6 Music (called Fright Night), on Friday - thru Saturday morning - at midnight.

Their controversial appearance on Loose Lips is widely thought to have played a large part towards the show's collapse and the consequent disbandment of Derek Acorah and co.

In June 2008 they became the second guest presenters of Big Brother's Big Mouth.
