Formed in 2001, the hard rock band Young Heart Attack originates from Austin, Texas, USA. Three veterans of local outfits, Chris Hodge (vocals/guitar), Frenchie (b. Chris Smith; guitar), and Steven Hall (bass), found themselves simultaneously without bands, resulting in an idea to join forces. With drummer Joey Shuffield (ex-Fastball), the band members invited a mutual friend, then-college student Jennifer Stephens, to try out as an additional vocalist. Although she had very little previous singing experience and had even less in common with her friends musically, a middle ground between both parties was finally met. Signing with indie label Rex Records, Young Heart Attack issued a smattering of singles, including "Over And Over" (an MC5 cover version) and "Tommy Shots". Tour dates in Europe were soon arranged, which led to gigs supporting the Darkness, Turbonegro, and veterans Motörhead. Young Heart Attack hit it off so well with the latter act, that frontman Lemmy agreed to fly out to the band's Texas home-base, and record a cover version of AC/DC's "Get It Hot" (which appeared later as the b-side to an all new single release of "Tommy Shots"). Signing next to XL Recordings, Young Heart Attack got to work on their album debut, issued in spring 2004 as Mouthful Of Love. At barely over 30 minutes in duration, the album was a fine representation of their high-energy live show, and was supported by a show-stopping performance at the SXSW Festival.
