The History Of The NME Awards
A no-holds-barred romp through six decades of rock 'n' roll excess.
1995
"Three Wise Men!" grace the front cover in the shape of award winners Damon Albarn, Noel Gallagher and Martin Rossiter from Gene as the inside pages report hair-raising tales of triumph, mayhem and over-indulgence. Blur sweep the board, winning Best Band, Best Album ('Parklife'), Best Video ('Parklife') and Best Live Act. Oasis take three Brats home including Best New Band, while Manic Street Preachers, Portishead and Paul Weller are also among the victorious. Meanwhile, in a backstage photo-call incident, Liam Gallagher kicks off the headline-grabbing Blur Vs Oasis wars by informing Damon Albarn that "your band is full of shit".
