The History Of The NME Awards
A no-holds-barred romp through six decades of rock 'n' roll excess.
2000
After a four-year lay-off the NME Awards return, hosted by Radio 1's Steve Lamacq and Mary Anne Hobbs at the Mermaid Theatre in London. Winners at the raucous show are Blur (Best Track and Best Band), Shaun Ryder (Godlike Genius) and Sir Paul McCartney for the special one-off category of Best Band in the World, Ever... The Beatles. Meanwhile, Super Furry Animals smash up the stage and Shaun Ryder is arrested outside the after-party.
