The History Of The NME Awards
A no-holds-barred romp through six decades of rock 'n' roll excess.
2006
Despite a star-studded guest list (where else could you see Teddy Sheringham and Pete Doherty rub shoulders with Kanye West?), the Shockwaves NME Awards 2006 will be remembered for one thing – Ryan Jarman’s death-defying table scramble in which The Cribs’ frontman jumped belly up onto the Kaiser Chief’s wine glasses. Still, once we’ve mopped up all the blood, there’s time to watch Arctic Monkeys win Best British Band, Best New Band and Best Track, Kaiser Chiefs claim Best Album, Ian Brown win the coveted Godlike Genius Award and presenter Russell Brand really, really annoy Bob Geldof.
