The NME Awards Tour History
NME takes the best new bands out on the road every year
2001
A bill presumably put together my mad psychopaths, visitors to the 2001 Awards Tour were in for a bit of a shock. Lulled into a false sense of dadrock by openers Starsailor (an admitedly pretty shonky bunch of MOR folk warblers we were unfathomably obsessed with at the time) and country-fried barn types Alfie, they might have checked the listing and thought ‘hmmm, Amen are on next, nice. A few lovely hymns I expect, like off Songs Of Praise’. And then – YAAAAAAGHHHHH! – a screaming Satanic maniac called Casey Chaos, bleeding heavily from the wrists, leaps violently around the stage summoning the tortured souls of Black Flag to the sound of all out nuclear war. Then JJ72 came on to play their glacial indie rock. Minds were blown from Galashiels to Gillingham.
The Line Up:
JJ72
Amen
Alfie
Starsailor
