Track Description
"...(the fact) they (Kill Surf City) have instantly won acclaim from many of the city's established names (the paddingtons, Freaks Union, Edible 5ft Smiths etc) and have leapt to headline slots at some of Hull's biggest nights (Sweet n Sour, Indeecent) speaks for itself; those that know music know when something is good."
KILL SURF CITY
Kill Surf City have taken Hull by storm. Formed little over a year ago they immediately demanded attention from local promoters, journalists, and gig goers. Now with the recording of the second demo they are set to transfer this success to other cities.
Sandman magazine - which boasts a bigger readership outside of London than the NME - put them on the cover within six months of the bands formation and hailed their "dark edge that stands out amongst the myriad of pub rock. " Thisisull.com have also been quick to praise the band and declared "Expect to hear more a lot more from Kill Surf City as they continue to create hair-raising aural and visual spectacles with each outing."
They have played headline shows in most Hull venues. Particularly impressive was the performance and turn-out as the main band at a prime-time Saturday night show at the Welly - a spot normally reserved for successful out-of-town bands. Being able to perform a set more than worthy of headlining is not the only string Kill Surf City have to their bow. They are more than capable of impressing despite the experience, the media praise, and music style of their co-performers. In the past they have played with a diverse selection including: The Holloways, The Kooks, The Subways, The Paddingtons, and Mumm-ra, and not once did they look out of place.
While each member has obvious individual style, when they come together they look like a band. Of course, Kill Surf City have more than this going for them. Their look is merely a complement to their sound: a dark fuzzing punk with the occasional twinkle twisted around their undoubted ear for a tune. Their look and songs are as all great bands should be: two steps in fashion and two steps out of fashion - a rock and roll dream.
