In the light of Noel Gallagher proclaiming his drearily canonical pick of the 10 greatest bands of all time (what, no Huey Lewis & The News?), we've been arguing about our own personal Top 10s.

This is Noel's Top 10:
1.The Beatles
2.The Rolling Stones
3.The Who
4.Sex Pistols
5.The Kinks
6.The La's
7.Pink Floyd
8.The Bee Gees
9.The Specials
10.(Peter Green's) Fleetwood Mac
Below, just for fun, we've put together our own lists.
But more importantly, we want this to be a launch-pad for your Top 10s. Let us know by leaving a comment below. The only catch is, you have to stick to the (rather proscriptive) rules laid down by Noel himself. Which are:
"No solo artists allowed. No female artists allowed. No collectives allowed (Public Enemy etc)."
Now, at what point a band becomes a "collective" is by no means clear, but hey that's all part of the fun, right?
While you're at it, why not cast a vote in our ongoing poll to determine the greatest band of all time. It's been running for a year now and is currently being won by – whaddayaknow? - Oasis.

[Disclaimer: I have chosen bands under the rules set down by captain dad-rock himself, Noel. This seems to preclude me from choosing anyone who doesn’t fit into a simple band dynamic, so today I am complicit in the tyranny of another boring canon of rock].
