Half an hour until I've got to leave the Stetson-adorned delights of Nashville for Blighty again, because the Jack Daniel's Birthday JD Set is over, and it looked a bit like this:
In case you missed my previous blog, it was a show featuring Young Knives' The House Of Lords, Tim from Ash, Roisin Murphy and Hugh Cornwell who used to be in The Stranglers playing covers and their own songs backed by local collective the Silver Cornet Band up at the Jack Daniel's distillery.
Thomas' (I think I'm going to stop calling him The House Of Lords – earlier he said he was getting a bit sick of the name) set was the best of the bunch.
With him being a bassist and suddenly shoved forward to be a frontman (he sang without an instrument), there was a genuine sense of the unpredictable and new.
He looked nervous (and wasn't quite sure what to do with his hands, should have held a banana or something), which made everyone root for him, which of course quelled his nerves, and he gave a great performance.
Good song choice, too. 'Turn Tail' sounded as strong as his versions of classics such as Pixies' 'Wave Of Mutilation'.
Roisin Murphy's (above) performance was more predictable, what with her pretty used to the old frontwoman thing and all that.
She looked ace, like a sexy female tin soldier swished to life with a magic wand. No 'Sing It Back', though…
Tim couldn't go far wrong – you can't help pumping your fist to 'Shining Light' and 'Goldfinger' unless you're an amputee.
And that's the finale of 'Gloria', below. A bit of an obvious choice for a lets-all-rush-the-stage moment, but hey, it's a classic and all that.
Until next year, then (is probably how long our enjoyably-earned whiskey headaches will probably last). Chin chin!
