“Is this Birmingham? Well let’s have a little party then!”

Those were the words The Twang’s Phil Etheridge opened his band’s home-town pub show last night (May 22) with. The answer being “Yes”, quickly followed by, “Er… is that a doner kebab I can smell?”

The Rainbow venue is, you see, one of the only establishments in the UK where you can order sizzling slices of ‘meat’ while you watch your favourite bands.

The ‘Wide Awake’ Brummie lads managed to pull attention away from the fast food on offer, mind, with a show met with approval in the form of enough spilt drink to drown an army of elephants. And they were pretty pleased with it too:

And then it was off into the Birmingham night to talk about how underrated The National are, then how Phil’s favourite new album is by The Horrors (“God, they’d hate it if they knew we liked them wouldn’t they”). Nah, they’d be made up, I reckon Faris jogs to ‘Either Way’ every Sunday morning.
