Saturday afternoon's a bit of a wasteland. On the Main Stage The Enemy are having their sound whipped into farty dissonance by a harsh cross-wind. And in the Big Top (the only other stage at Isle Of Wight) there's, erm, Andy Lo Russo, The Singing Chef.
Perhaps that's why such a vast and enthusiastic crowd has assembled for Foals' Edwin Congreave's DJ set in Strongbow's Bowtime Bar.

Who says festivals are becoming too gentrified?
Certainly not Karen, an HR manager from London who we found quaffing chilled pink Chandon with her friends in the Zebra Champagne Garden.

Poor Tom Donoclift. All his friends are at Download this weekend but the 20-year-old metal fan couldn't get a ticket so wound up at Isle Of Wight instead.

We're sure plenty of punters turned up to Isle Of Wight in the hope of avoiding The Police this weekend. They might have a harder time escaping the actual police, whose massed presence in the streets surrounding the festival site is truly unnerving.
Weirdest of all are the packs of sniffer dogs guarding the shuttle buses going from Ryde ferry-port to the festival site. Cue groups of panicking stoners putting their heads together and deciding that - hey - they might just walk the 10 miles to Newport instead.
It all seems a bit harsh, really. You don't expect to be confronted with resounding proof of The Man's omnipotence while queuing up for a festival. What next - Taser-ing crowd-surfers?

The campsite opened three hours ago and people are already streaming in – even though the main arena doesn't open until noon tomorrow (June 13). Here's how it's all looking:

Isle Of White has witnessed some legendary performances over the years, but which is the greatest of them all?
Ahead of the festival kicking off tomorrow (June 13), here's our Top 5.
What's your personal Isle Of Wight highlight?
The Who
They'd played Isle of Wight the previous year, on the same bill as Bob Dylan, but it's their epic 1970 performance that everyone remembers. Here's Pete Townshend and co windmilling through 'I Can't Explain'.
