Phewee, well it’s all over save for picking some beer cans out of the woods, waking up the last remaining people still snoring in the backstage camping and packing away my tipi.

continued...

It’s been quite a ride and almost so stressful and exhausting that you can’t face the thought of doing another one next year… which reminds me I mustn’t forget that we’ve got 35,000 people coming to the Isle of Wight in 6 weeks for the mothership of our festivals, Bestival. Jeepers creepers, we’re gluttons for punishment.

Actually I’ve probably had one of the best weekends in a long time. I’m still buzzing from The Flaming Lips' Saturday headline – much more than just a musical show, Wayne Coyne and his band of merry men turned out one of the finest live shows I’ve ever seen.

For starters Mr Coyne did his usual trick of coming into the crowd to start the show inside his giant inflatable ball…but at Camp Bestival he decided to come out of the bloody castle itself, down the steps and into the crowd.

Never before have I seen such a magical sight and the gasps from the crowd were genius. Before the show Wayne was totally hands on, prepping all the gear and props the Lips use onstage. We had a chat, and he said he thought it was one of the best festies he’d ever been to and their set certainly smashed it. Owing to extremely stringent noise restrictions they had to leave the grand finale out of their set but I’m not sure many of the revellers noticed.

Black Kids also spent much of the weekend hanging out and loved mucking around in the Kids Disco tent designed for youngsters but inhabited by adults pretending to be kids!

Kate Nash played a blinder on Sunday night, getting one of her and my musical heroes Billy Bragg back onstage after his own brilliant solo performance.

Another one to add to the long list of highlights this weekend was seeing The Wurzels blasting out ‘Combine Harvester’ with their guitarist stripping his top off and gyrating round the stage like a geriatric Justin Timberlake…they must’ve sneaked in a few bottles of their homebrew cider to behave like such loons.

Earlier in the afternoon the one and only Beardyman won the crowd over on the main stage with his unbelievable beatboxing skills, with a short interruption during his set when one of our burlesque dancers decided to take to the stage in full-on 'Barbarella' gear to the sounds of '2001: Space Odyssey' - all perfectly normal in the world of Camp Bestival.

Oh, and did I mention the Medieval Jousting Knights on horseback we had in the main field – a certain first for any music festival!

The Laughter Library, our comedy and spoken word tent, was another big success for us this weekend with my own personal highlight meeting the legendary Roy Walker…just what Mr Chips was doing in there I couldn’t tell you from my view behind the stage but the crowd seemed to love the retro-ness of having 'Catchphrase' live on the stage.

Also (top) hats off to Howard Marks who loved it all so much that he stayed with us all weekend, doing everything from reading stories to kids (hopefully not ones from his books) to judging the hilarious finalists in the Come Dancing tent.

So thanks NME.com for letting me on your homepage and thanks to you for reading. Maybe see you at one of the festivals very soon.
