NME Festivals Blog 2009 - Festival action, all year round - Festival action, all year round

What a glorious day! Am sat basking in the sunshine in my shorts and flip-flops. OK, so in reality I'm just donning some waterproof trousers and testing my wellies for holes.

Bestival

continued...

Don't want to get too British and bang on about the weather but we may be in for a slightly damp one for the first time at Bestival – but hey ho we're ready and the theme is 30,000 Freaks Under The Sea so it's my own fault.

Bestival

On the ground we're more concerned with getting the Big Wheel up in the air, finishing painting the handmade signage and sticking bog roll in the toilets.
Bestival

For the first time we're opening the campsites on the Thursday, which adds a whole lot of other pressures with up to 15,000 people arriving today to get the best camping pitches and dust down their raving boots in time for the gates to open to the main site in the morning.
Bestival

In other business (and its only 8.10am here) I've been up to the artist liaison discussing secret plans to get one of our headliners on and off site and checking the hospitality rider of one of our two special guests (yes that's right kids, two special guests!).
Bestival

Six bottles of Cristal champagne for starters and a shedload of vehicles of all varieties on standby for her. I wish I could spill the beans on all the backstage gossip and goings on here cos it’d make a pretty decent soap opera. Maybe I can write that kiss and tell book after all!
Bestival

Musically I can't wait for a 1am indoor appearance from Aphex Twin, My Bloody Valentine on the Friday night and Lykke Li on the BBC outdoor stage.
More reports later!

I wish I could go. We missed our flight from Dublin this morning and we were considering getting another on Friday morning but the weather warning is scaring me off...40mm rain for Friday...the place will be like a marsh. :-(

Och - a wee bit o rain will not put a dampner on this Bestival. Rock on with your goodselves. I'll be checking in from my humble abode in Canada to feast on your festivities.

I live on the island, and have just returned from Friday night's delights. Needless to say everybody has had a thorough soaking. However, the Bestival spirit has generally overcome any glumness and we look forward to at least some relief from the recent drenching throughout the rest of the weekend. I wossied out of camping tonight, but all going well i shall stay on tomorrow and Sunday night. Keep Bestival best-of-all. Alex x

It is an absolute marsh. Our tent which had survived Glastonbury 2005 and 2007 took an absolutely battering, collapsing forcing us to leave on Friday lunchtime - absolutely gutted!

I left early :( failed tent....

Wash out, Wash out, Wash out!! More metal roads should have been previously built considering that there were severe weather warnings earlier on in the week. Maybe Rob should have considered spending money on more roads or mud suckers rather then spending it on Amy Winehouse's poor performance....not that I bothered to watch. Moan over...I will add though that the Specials were amazing.

Rain stops play. Too much money for what we got with no real preparation for rain. If it were performance related we would get a refund. we put a brave face on things but it sucked a bit too much.
