With last month’s ‘Jetstream’ referred to as “an imaginary song for the closing credits on ‘Blade Runner’ and next single ‘Kingdom Of Rust’ labelled “a Lancashire spaghetti western”, you can’t accuse Doves of straying from their cinematic persuasions after a four year hiatus.

Doves

continued...

So the good news for anyone that hasn’t noticed already is that Doves are back back back and the better news is that they're still doing what they do best, perhaps preparing to steal some of Elbow’s thunder and shuffle finally into the limelight proper. With their last two albums (unsuccessfully) Mercury nominated, perhaps this could be their year to pick up some silverware too. Oh and it gives us all an excuse to talk about Sub Sub all over again.

And so to the remixes of 'Kingdom Of Rust' (the title track from the forthcoming album). The Prins Thomas mix that's starting to do the rounds is an almost nine-minute epic which stretches that track into its logical Sergio Leonesque conclusion but doesn't go anywhere too unusual; ours immediately replaces the track's ponderous stomp for a 'Lust For Life' bass line that takes a little getting used to but over five minutes does the song plenty of justice. It's done by Still Going, who can be found HERE and who also tinkered with !!!'s 'Yadnus' - well worth a listen.

If you're going to bother to remix, the aim is to improve or reinvent the original idea. This does neither - the bassline is tedious and the added parts do nothing to replace the changing moods of each section of the original, particularly the chorus.

Catch the real thing it's far batter than this twaddle. I saw them at the ABC last night and the new tracks stand up already with the classics. Jetstream and 10.03 are classics in the making. Enjoy

It's not bad, not what I expected! I hope they don't start with all this when I go and see them though. Want soaring guitars not 90's dance!!
