Not entirely convinced about the Beatles edition of 'Rock Band' - those twangy riffs just don't look all that satisfying to play along with.

But looking at the jaw-droppingly slick preview clip that has just surfaced, ahead of the game's release in September, Harmonix are throwing a huge budget behind this game.

Factor in the billions of dollars generated by previous games in the series, and The Beatles' generation-spanning global fanbase, and we may well be looking at the biggest-selling video game in history.

What with Project Natal for the XBox, it's been an exciting week for gamers.

Il buy it, looks well good. Gives the younger generation a chance to experience the Beatles themselves which is never a bad thing.

Biggest selling game? Doubt it, it costs way too much if you don't already have the instruments and their are a lot of Beatles fans who don't. Plus there are a lot of people who are already sick of these games. Saying that it'll blow the Aerosmith, Metellica and the Van Halen (will there be more than two songs on that?) and will be the best selling Rock Band game, but wont take over Guitar Hero sadly. I'd doubt it'll even sell a third of the 40.24 million copies that Super Mario Bros NES sold.

Yep, thoroughly impressed by the cinematic intro but if you factor in the cost of the peripherals to play the game 'properly' then there's no way on earth that this will enter into even the top 100 selling video games...

It should be noted that the video that was linked on the front page isnt a preview of the game, but rather a promotional video. I very much doubt this will be the biggest selling game ever, i'd imagine that seat is reserved for one of the more popular MMO's such as world of warcraft. It's more likely that the game could break a few records in the downloadable content department. The downloadable songs for both Rock Band and guitar hero are hugely popular, and seeing as the beatles discography still isn't available on itunes (or any other download service to my knowledge) and harmonix will be offering full album downloads, i can see download figures being huge. I personally can't wait for the game, i've been looking forward to playing along to 'paperback writer' ever since the original guitar hero. For a better idea as to what the game is really going to look like, check out this video on gametrailers

I love to play the Beatles on real guitar too much. Plus i dont have an xbox 360 (i'm saving up for a new guitar haha.) I guess i'm just out of touch already. . . at 16 lol. But looks ar8.

I won't be buying it as I don't care for computer games, don't even own a computer machine and would rather play the greatest songs ever written on an actual guitar. HOWEVER - this is the best trailer for a video game I have ever seen and sent goosebumps up my arms and filled my belly with butterflies. It deserves to sell millions, and will introduce a new generation to the greatest band, songs, and rock and roll tale in history. THE BEATLES WILL LAST FOREVER.

not what the Beatle's were about. not what music is about. whatever happened to simply listening to albums?
steven [Visitor] //June 4 2009 at 01:07
Am I the only person who feels that it is a tad ridiculous to put an obscene amount of time and money into imitating playing an instrument, when this money could be better spent buying a real instrument and learning a skill in actually playing music, which presumably is what the morons who buy this game intend. And that is not the only problem with this atrocity, it desicrates the grave of 'The Beatles' and sullys the name of desent REAL fans

i will buy it...i don't even own a ps3 or xbox (my last console was a sega genesis lol!), but i will have to buy one now since i won't miss out on rock band from the best band ever
Jimmy James [Visitor] //June 4 2009 at 02:56
Why would it be? Do people in general who play video games listen to The Beatles? Is it going to be more playable than Super Mario Bros? Grand Theft Auto? What a crap Blog.
Seany [Visitor] //June 4 2009 at 12:08
I really don't like Rock Band, I don't know why it just isn't as good as guitar hero, and as much as I love the Beatles their songs won't be amazing to play along with, I don't like Metallica but the songs will be a lot more interesting and difficult to play.
why? [Visitor] //June 4 2009 at 13:46
if you;re gonna pretend to play guitar, do it to some metal band with pointless fiddly riffs, i believe the metallica were designed for this. However, if you're a music fan, get a real guitar, and learn beatles songs. Also, whats the point of that trailer? It's just a cartoon of the beatles with some songs, what does that say about the game?

greattt now everybody can be oasis :)

I think that the people who diss games such as Rock Band are missing the point. Rock Band provides a different and fun way for people to experience music with friends, who for whatever reason are not able (or have never considered) starting a real band. Statistics show that as soon as one of these games is released album sales and the sale of 'real instruments' go up as a result. It's very possible that in the next 5 years or so we will come across a band from 'the guitar hero generation' who was inspired to start playing an instrument because of the game! If there's a creative way to get good music to an audience that under normal circumstances wouldn't bother, whilst at the same time providing inspiration to pick up a real instrument then I'm behind it 100%.
santcer123 [Visitor] //June 4 2009 at 17:11
since when do the beatles look asian? it´s just lame how the gaming companies do this to attract bigger markets
Nic [Visitor] //June 4 2009 at 20:52
No reason to buy it, I can already play most of these songs on real guitar... And to be honnest, the only way to enjoy a Beatles song is from a record or playing around with a couple of friends... plus it has better chances of getting you laid.
He_Man [Visitor] //June 5 2009 at 09:48
I won't be buying it because the beatles don't seem very fun to play. I really respect thier music but their riffs don't seem overly fun to play so it would be a fairly boring game. I'll be getting guitar hero metallica!
Some_Emo_Child [Visitor] //June 5 2009 at 09:49
In my view, Guitar hero owns Rockband :x so either way - I won't be buying This Beatles Bullcrap :) |m|/
Mel [Visitor] //June 5 2009 at 12:02
Ho even if I own Guitar hero and Rock Band this isn't my favorite kind of game.I can play the most of the beatles song on a real guitar so this is maybe pretty stupid but...Just the idea of being"playing" and singing the song of my favorite rock band with my friends is enough to make me buy this thing! Okay maybe not the big and complete instruments pack (180€ duh!) but I can't resist to something new and official to imply the fab four.
Billie [Visitor] //June 5 2009 at 20:51
Cute idea, but i dont do gaming and i still prefer the real guitar. But i like the idea of intro-ing my friends to the Beatles with this game so why not?
Luke [Visitor] //June 6 2009 at 01:23
Play your 3 chord Beatles songs on a real guitar!
Cassius [Visitor] //June 7 2009 at 22:15
"biggest-selling video game in history" Doubt it. Perhaps if it had been put out a year or two earlier. Also fucked if im buying it. I only find rockband fun when Im too drunk to play real instruments
hello [Visitor] //July 14 2009 at 17:18
Oh no!. Whoevers idea it was to put out this Beatles game, do they have any idea it will tarnish the legendary beatles. Well probably not enough for people to stop calling them legendary, but it just seems as if they want to jump on a bandwagon ( see what i did there :L ), when really the beatles created most bandwagons.
